I totally missed out on that angle, with the voltage not being high enough, so I searched around a bit: you could apparently use something called a BEC booster, which ups the voltage to 6v, making it possible to use a more standard ESC, as far as I understand it. Someone more knowledgable will probably come along and correct me if I got it backwards.

Since you are in the UK, something like a K1 Kamtec ESC seems like a good bet:

You're correct (For those interested: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buck_converter -> Linking to this as it includes Boost, Buck-boost and Cuk (See right side))

There's always more to a story, if you tell us what you're trying to do we may be able to come up with better suggestions?

For one thing, I think most servos (if not all) work fine on 4 cells. That's what we were using back in the days ;)

So I think the OP is more interested in an ESC that will take the low voltage without hitting the low voltage cutoff. Right?

And I too am curious as to what project requires 4 cells 🙂

Yup you’ve guess it, it’s a kamtec car, all being well I’ll put up a thread soon on the build, as it’s going to end up using a combination of kamtec and tamiya parts.

The question re: a 4 cell esc was to see what other choices where available other than the ones the manufacturer has to offer.
