RC is the only area in my life which I’m not at all organised with or on top of 😂

Rental properties, DIY, car maintenance, 5 kids, tax returns, blah, blah, blah 😭, I can literally just about keep up with.

The truth is I’ve never really had the time for RC and now I don’t have liquidity I used to have either 😳

But it is what it is and it is my own decisions that put me here, some being better than others 😉

Anyhow, as we currently have a spare bedroom, I put most of my RC kit in there out of the way and this way it’s then not spread out around the house being untidy weighing down on me.

So yesterdays epiphany was why not start at the front of my sprawling RC mess and work my way towards the back,  one box at at time, get some stuff finished, run more, buy less, sell some surplus kit off, etc, etc.

So this morning I emptied one box and it is now in the recycling - way to go 🎉

I thought I might chart my progress to give me some inspiration and a push on to get some RC 💩 done 👊

Great idea for a thread. I was in a similar situation recently and have almost got to the end of clearing out all the potential projects I'd accumulated over the years. I feel better for having less cars to concentrate on.

Looking forward to seeing your progress 👌

Brilliant idea - I've resorted to spreadsheet to track my collection now, down to 4 cars left to restore, 6 new builds to finish, 9 bodies to finish and paint!

Not buying any more kits or resto projects until they are all done

Yeah, sounds like a great thing, this! I need to get on top of my RC game too, so I'll follow with interest.

I'd vote for the box underneath Herbie👍

Good choice, I’ll bring it down, show you the contents and we’ll go from there 🎉

Ok @toyolien contents of box as requested.

Every part has a story, except the spirit level, I’ve no idea why that’s in there 🤦‍♂️.

The Lancia shell will be for an XV-02 if I can afford one before Time Tunnel put up their price @ £199.00.

The vintage RR is beautifully painted but came to me broken in 2 places, it’ll either now get used on an SRB runner chassis or a DT02, but it needs to be repaired 1st.

I’ll tidy up the contents of this box, repair the RR shell and then we can go again.

I wasn't sure what to expect in that box. That's a nice couple of projects. Be good the get the Lancia on an XV-02:D

Totally get this @Grumpy pants mate👍 It's certainly one of those hobbies that lends itself all to well to hording and many an unfinished project!

Good luck with the clear out and reorganising! We shall watch with interest and hope, and cheer you on buddy.

I usually have a similar process in the back of my mind, which picks up pace from time to time and actually enables a bit of progress towards reorganising. However, whilst it most recently got off to a good start again mid-end of last year, it's stalled so far this year. I'll have to get back on the organising horse (although it's current form is more like one of those worn out, old beach donkeys!!🫏)

Trying to "level up", eh? :D

I think the Buggy Champ body would go nice with a 380 motor and some Healthy Racing chassis (DT-02, GHII, etc).

Funnily enough I did buy a Sports Tuned 380 and a DT02 in more recent times with this in mind.

THIS is definitely something I can relate to! I have a lot of stuff I badly need to sort through, finish or move on. My trouble is that I like owning things, even if I know I'll never actually use it, and then I feel some kind of regret that I've gotten rid of it! Stupid I know, but that's how my brain 'works'!

However, I was down my storage container last weekend, trying to find my elusive new battery charger and a 2.4ghz radio set I bought 2 years ago, 2 hours of moving things out of the way to get to where I thought it was, I found it! Then I found a lot of other gems I'd forgotten I had! A new in bag Blackfoot shell, a Tamiya Nitro chassis minus the engine and front and rear diffs, some foam F1 tyres, a Citroen 2CV shell, a DTM Mercedes shell, a TT-01 rear ball diff, a Manta Ray rear ball diff hop-up set, and a load of other bits! Result! However, now I have to sort through the rest of it and sell it on. I should say 'no more until I've got rid of this', but I know I won't. But on the flip side, I've managed to get a few of the guys here at work into RC, so that's good!

My loft is slowly filling up with projects, but I think I am going to have a free 'sale' on here to keep it reasonable.

I find having too many build up a little stressful, and feels more like a tap I should get fixed then a fun thing to do when I've got the time.

My goal (if I can keep it) is to finish everything I currently have as a would be runner before getting anything new.

Totally relate to this. Love the fact that you have mystery boxes with completely unrelated items in them.

I am almost at the end of my purge / refocus project and it has taken me almost a year to get to a stage where all I have are projects I actually really want to invest in and not loads of half completed ones mixed with shiny new bits that don’t have a corresponding car.

I actually think the process you are going through will be deeply enjoyable. Good luck!

@Grumpy pants and others: Very recognizable!

I am at the stage of my life where I no longer have the energy/ drive to hunt down rc parts for new cars or existing projects and I am stuck with all the rc stuff I gathered over the years.

I find myself also reluctant selling off cars /projects that have been sitting on the shelf for years or have been stored in boxes because of.....^_^...well just because.

So now I take it one step/car/project at a time and try to enjoy the journey instead of just focusing on the endresult.

So far it's working and I am finding the joy back of this wonderfull hobby, which it is!

I am not feeling guilty anymore if I don't finish something in a certain amount of time nor do I have Fomo in this time of all the re-re-re-re releases and special editions.......;)

I am good with what I have in the state that it's in......

One step at a time is good enough for me now.

You see: there are benefits( although not many) of getting older.....

Best of luck Grumpy Pants!

Best regards,

Rick

Sounds like we are all getting far more “zen” as we age and are able to disect what parts of the hobby appeal to each of us.

I’ve been nattering with some of you for nearly 20 years now on this site and it is nice to see how deeply cathartic it can be.

Had a little time in the evening this week to pack away the 1st box and find the tools/parts to complete the RR shell.

It’ll be glued and bolted, and then set aside whilst I work out whether to run it on an SRB chassis or the DT02, both of which I have hiding in boxes 😆

Made a start today -

A cross between a dogs dinner and a Meccano set - and of course on the 1st rollover it’ll all be toast - but for now this can be parked 🎉

Not sure what’s next, I should really finish the M-06 Beetle 😉

It looks great. I remember those Parma Int stickers. They were on all the buggies I raced against in the early 90's.

Eat the Frog, as they say. Oh sorry, Beetle, in this case, then. :D
