At Christmas I built this one and then set it to the side, now I want to run it but not on foam tyres so the 3d printer was busted out to make some adapters to run M size wheels.

I feel they may need a little fettling to get the figment just right but that’ll come next.

The kamtec stuff is so simple but well made, the quality is great, bearings and nice tough plastic.

The reliant only come pre (hand) built but I messaged and requested an unbuilt kit and they had no issue providing the bits in a box for me.

Currently redesigning the adaptors as the one for the front wheel pushes it too far to one side causing steering issues.

Please keep us informed

I think I'm going to get one from kamtec as I fancy something different.

It would be great if you could possibly sell me some of your wheel adaptors once you have figured them out??

JimBear would like a Kamtec!!

:D Yes, I've been meaning to get something for like ages now, haha ...

@phiber_optik - gotta love the paint jobs. Sweet with the caravan too. :)

Keep up posted, especially with the electronics part, and later on the ... uuh ... driving characteristics. I assume you are going to drive them outdoors?

Oh the yellow one with the caravan got a good run at the weekend, including going full turtle on its roof with caravan in tow. The yellow taxi is running a mtronics esc on 4 cell but it’s got a soft start so no burn out fun.

It handles how you expect, it’s quick because there is no weight, it is quiet as there is next to no drive train. It does scrap the nose going into corner full speed, however it is fairly tough to tip over as it’s not so high off the ground. Generally it’s a hoot.

I am planning on trying the LRP ai runner 2.0 esc in the green one.

Also for reference the paint on all 3 has been done with Montana Black Spray Cans ☺️

The little man’s yellow taxi got an upgrade this evening. He figure out the 4 cell had the same connector as a normal 6 cell NiMh so it got cable tied in and oh boy can it shift!

I knew this but was trying to keep to the originals design, however after running it on a normal 6 cell it was to fun to ignore.

Queue design a 6 cell battery holder ☺️

I have also found small li ion batteries perfect for these.

Oh yeah, that was a fast taxi ride! :D

Good to know that you could potentially fit a bigger NiMh in there - but perhaps a bit crazy with three wheels on the road ...

By the way, does the taxi have lights up front?

It does yes, lights front and back. Just a Tamiya plug in line light kit I had laying about. Just drilled and mounted in led bulb holders.

Further developments, after running a 6 cell battery and having a blast, a 3d printed battery holder was designed.

The battery fits in one end and clips in at the other all while still fitting inside the parameter of the original chassis and original mounting points.

@phiber_optik - how did you set up the electronics in the end? I know you asked about an ESC for the original 4-cell battery. Did you set that up or did you go for the 6-cell (then it's no issue with the ESC I assume)?

Perfect timing to ask that question, it was my birthday yesterday and my lovely wife bought me some tamiya related gifts.

Wild willy to be the drive, a Jr lunchbox to build and of course a new ESC.

I opted for the LRP runner reverse v2. I gave it a quick inspection last night and it looks great, it’s very small, comes with a nice little add on heat sink, stickers, cable ties and it suitable for both 4 and 6 cell. So I’ve both bases covered.

As for 4 or 6 cell it’s undecided, 6 cell is a hoot but fear it could lead to total destruction lol!

More updates coming soon.

Haha, this is classic. Does it handle like a full scale Reliant? I’ll never forget the Top Gear episode with Clarkson tipping one over every corner

It’s a bit skittish flat out round a corner but the chassis is that low to the ground and the centre of gravity is so low it’s actually rather difficult to tip, dragging a caravan round flat out is a whole other story.

This build of still ongoing, been redesigning a battery holder for a four cell battery, LRP Esc fitted and have started paining my first ever Wolf Willy, who will become the driver of this contraption!

Wild Willy 1

Screwed and glued, sanded, primer, white then masked and yellow. Will touch in any imperfections once finished.

Face next, then padding and eyes along with trim and details. Then onto the body.

That ol' daredevil Willy ... :D

Looking forward to see some photos of how you set it all up, with the LRP and the battery holder. And the crazy driver, of course!
