This is my BBX. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Kinda dumb to start a topic on it but I was oddly pleased with how it came out. I've probably rambled about this in the past but when the BBX came out an earlier buggy, or rather the one it was mimicking in real life, popped into my mind that really wasn't alluded to in its beautiful  mismash of earlier design themes. Aside from a couple "Rough Ride" decals, I thought of the Rough Rider, but not Tamiya's #1 off road buggy. The Rough Rider livery was a close altered copy of Bob Maynard's 1:1 car. The old story goes (true or not) that Tamiya wasn't into paying royalties to use it some they made one very much like it, thus "Bob Maynard Racing" became "Rob Mitchell Racing".

The problem that always got me was the Rough Rider looked a lot closer to its alternate paint scheme, that of the Bel Ray Bullet. Why Tamiya went with the orange derivative as its main box art, I don't know unless, it was more licensing concerns or the blue was too close to the scheme picked out for SRB #2, the Sand Scorcher which followed the Rough Rider in short order. At any rate the slim, longer profile BBX just reminds me of Maynard's ride more. Here's where my BBX started with one of its obvious earlier inspirations, the Super Champ:

It was a delightful build but I let it sit on the shelf for a bit before finally painting up a runner body. Here it is in more of a Rough Rider vibe:

I know someone has to have done this before and probably did a better job of it, but I'm fairly happy with it. I didn't even botch the painted stripes (too badly, lol).

That looks good. I've seen orange, which I liked.  Red looks even better.  Which color did you use?

As far as Tamiya not wanting to pay royalties goes, there's always the "Blackfoot". Surprisingly I almost never see them painted up like Bigfoot despite the name.

I think your Rough BBX'er turned out nice, the stripes look a lot better than any of my attempts.

That's a beautiful and tasty BBX. I like the design of this buggy and it can suit many different retro paint schemes. I like to think about it as a modern Bear Hawk, but that is if you use the kit stripes. The RMR scheme is of course also eye wettening.

Samirc.no was blowing them out at a bargain price last week. Knowing that I don't need one I did not pull the trigger and by the end of the week all 5 was gone.

I think the BBX. looks fantastic in "Rough Rider" livery. Great job! I really need to add a BBX to my fleet ASAP.

For sure, @Saito2's BBX is whole lot more Rough Rider than the Rough Rider.

I used to think this was one of the best Tamiya liveries, but Saito topped it.

Bravo, Saito!  You've done what Tamiya couldn't do. (I suppose they couldn't release 2 Rough Rider liveries).  You blew the Rough Rider out of the water.

I know people like to hate on the wheels but there's a lot of inspiration for the BBX hiding in this one.   I'm just going to paint the chrome PS55 matte and it will have an aluminum look(and stick to them and PS lays down super smooth satin).   I've been meaning to build my BBX as 'son of fighting buggy' too(with the tribute aluminum roof wing they make for it), still haven't gotten around to starting it yet... I even numbered the FB #845 in advance.  Noticed that 45 also appears on this one... Hmm

Edit # Just discovered PS59 Dark Metallic Blue
