Hi everybody,

So proud of myself as just recently finished my first ever build of a RC car. Tamiya Egress.

Im new to RC, so did not have a clue what i was letting myself in for and what to expect, but learnt so much in the process. And still learning so much now.

Officially hate E-clips however! Managed to drop 4 onto carpet and 2 were eventually found other side of room!

Anyway, the excitement and anticipation when peeling back the plastic film from the car body was such a relief, and was so happy.

Finally, have to say that i never really expected to enjoy RC cars as a potential new hobby, but i was so wrong! Building m first kit was so therapeutic and relaxing.

Wow! Talk about jumping in the deep end! That is a very special kit for your first foray into the hobby. Having started so high up the ladder, where do you want to go from here?

Thankyou. Was actually considering buying the Kyosho Optima mid or Turbo next. Both were my first initial choice before decided on Tamiya, as read the Optima instructions were quite hard to follow.

Welcome to the club!

If and when you go for other chassis, you might need to adjust expectations a bit, because what you got is a very special machine. Not everything will run like that. But I'd say every chassis are special in their own ways. (Besides, when building is the purpose, performance wouldn't matter as much).

P.S. Magnets can be useful when calling on lost e-clips.

E-clips…

get the Tamiya eclip tool.  Lifesaver!

and try to do it in a clear baggie, so if it goes flying, it gets caught in the baggie.

Welcome @Josie! As others have said, you've certainly entered the RC hobby in style, the Egress is a top kit and one of best performers too, by all accounts. Yours looks great, and glad to hear you enjoyed the build so much. Have you fitted all the electronics and will you be running her?

The Kyosho kits you mentioned are also top quality, the Turbo is goregous, the Mid is generally considered to be the better runner. Others to consider at similar levels would be things like the Tamiya Top Force EVO and the Avante, or the Super Astute - one of my personal favs and a bargain for what they've put it out at. Also, the Kyosho World's kits (Mid and Ultima) are worth looking at, along with Optima Pro (super sleek shell on that one) and the upcoming long wheel base Turbo Optima Mid Special (TOMS).

Enjoy! And keep us updated!!👍🙂

What a fantastic first kit. You have set yourself a very high bar! The Kyosho's you mention are wonderful so if you enjoyed the Egress you should enjoy any of them too.

I hate E-clips too.😂

Magnets do a great job of picking up screws, pins and clips from the floor.

Welcome to us. I must say you started on a high level with the Egress (and it turned out gorgeous). Good choice with one of the Optimas.

Welcome @Josie. That looks like a nice first build. Everyone experiences the nuisance of e-clips :) You'll find the forum is a great resource for info and chit chat about the hobby. Always feel free to ask questions because theres always someone else that will benefit from the answer too.

This is my favourite thing about the hobby. It really is a chill out experience. (except the e-clips of course).

It wont be long before you start a build queue of cars that you have bought and want to build. I didnt think I would have a build queue when I built my first car which was a little GF-01 but I now have about 5 kits waiting on a shelf which is nothing compared with the stashes of some members here :)

Ah Thankyou all.  Im really pleased to be here and lovely to get some helpful advice and some useful info too.

Did not realize how much of a minefield this hobby is, especially with the re-releases of original cars too and all the different

motors, batteries and electronics etc available to buy. But im learning something new everyday, and that's a good thing!

🤣🤣🤣

Welcome Daniel-San , you must learn to paint that fence, then you must learn wax on wax off (fit Hornet tyres to their wheels...).🤣

(One tip, is to fit the E rings inside a suitable sized bag, freezer / carrier etc, it reduces the blast radius 😁

Seemed funnier after a beer....🫣

The 1984 Karate kid film reference..

It's part of the RC apprenticeship, learning to fit E rings without them pinging across the room, (the other part is fitting Hornet wheels...)

The car looks very nice as-is, but have you considered adding the end-plates to the wing? They may make it look even nicer.

(You could perhaps try sticking them on with double-sided tape initially rather than bolting them on, so that you can easily remove them again if you don't like them?)
