MadAtComputer Posted June 10 Posted June 10 Got the rest of the parts in yesterday and built the kit. The dust cover didn't survive reaming the screw hole. And the thrust bearings from the fast eddy kit did not fit, they were too thick and wedged the gear in place. I just used the tamiya ones. the 20kg amazon servo seems very slow. I'll probably replace it at some point. Other than making a couple goof ups with the stickers that went pretty well. Sure is a sharp looking buggy. I've give it a run this afternoon. Plan is to get a bit faster motor next month. I have a RCchannel a arm brace on the way. Edit: Turns of if you pay attention the the manual and use all the parts things work right. I guess I didn't notice the washer so though I had reamed it to large. Dust cover is good to go. 7
MadAtComputer Posted June 10 Author Posted June 10 Drove good, suspension works great and the ground clearance is plenty for the lawn. The bad, the motor got very hot after about 10 minutes. Wonder if the 15t pinion is to much for the stock motor? or full throttle in grass was too much. hmm.
Marchie Posted June 11 Posted June 11 I always found the motor very hot on my Boomerang (which I believe is the same chassis?) after running in grass. Runs better with a Super Stock which has enough torque and RPM to gear low and still have speed. 1

Bummer is I was happy with the speed with the 15t pinion and silver can. Wonder if a motor with a built in fan would help? The manual has info on a 16t and 17t pinion. I think that would burn out motors pretty fast. Edit: after some reading on the forum and checking specs I think I am going with a GT Tuned motor. Same torque as the super stock motors, but slower and cheaper. I don't need much more speed so in theory it should do nicely.
Marchie Posted June 11 Posted June 11 GT tuned is probably a wise choice. The manual recommends the Dirt Tuned (and specifically discourages using the Sport Tuned), probably because the Dirt Tuned is very torque-y. I gave the DT a try and it was fine, but because the RPM on that motor is quite low I ended up gearing it on the higher end (16T I think) to get some speed, and so it still ran hot. GT-tuned has a little more torque than the Dirt Tuned and higher RPM so you can use it with the 13/15T. I'm using 13T right now with the Super Stock and it has plenty of pace. You can just squeeze in an 8.4V pack as well if you want that little extra grunt. Hope it goes well for you! 1

I was planing to wait til next month for a motor, but the stock one got so hot after 10 minutes in grass that it was not really usable. I've got a steel 15t pinion. Bummer is that I was plenty happy with the silver can speed. It just can't handle the 15t and grass. 1
MadAtComputer Posted Sunday at 06:48 AM Author Posted Sunday at 06:48 AM Got the GT tuned. Runs a lot cooler, and great torque. 2
MadAtComputer Posted Monday at 08:12 PM Author Posted Monday at 08:12 PM My rc channel a arm brace got here today. Other than maybe getting a faster servo it's done. I think. Lol 2
wolfdogstinkus Posted Monday at 08:32 PM Posted Monday at 08:32 PM I believe the dirt tuned motor used to include a foam dust filter for the motor endbell.
