I am The cheapest UK shop for Tamiya is a tiny shop in the middle of no where in East Lothian. The other cheap "shop" is a guy selling stuff out of his garage or shed.

What two shops are these? Time Tunnel and TTP?

TTM and JK. JK is a bit of try your luck with their stock. I picked up some hopup parts for substantially lower price than RCM.

If I look at my rc hobby history, I was infected by the Tamiya virus when I was a young boy, forgot about the hobby  from my late teens till my early 40's.

Since then the virus became active again, beginning with collecting  the cars I couldn't afford when I was a child and restoring them until the point where I found out that buying another car of the same type, wouldn't double the satisfaction. At that point, the virus just lingered about  i.e.: I looked at my cars from time to time without doing anything with them. I even thought of selling them, but somehow I couldn't get my self to do it, knowing myself,  that I would regret it someday.

Now I am happy that I didn't and look at them with admiration and pride.

I rediscovered the hobby for the .......th time in my life and find it evolved with the stages of my life.

Now that I am an old man, I find the most joy in tinkering,  concentrating on detailing or turning a certain car ( eg: a dt03 neo fighter into a 60's F1 car) IMG_20250413_201833_719.thumb.jpg.6fd446a9c137f908653f4d3a53b8d05d.jpgsomething else without any pressure of having to finish a car in a certain amount of time.

I guess what I am trying to say to the topic starter  is that the rc hobby has so much to offer during your life, sometimes it's very prominent,  sometimes it is very distant, but it is always there to (re) discover.

Just my 2 cents,

Regards Rick

As mirrored by many, if you're hearts not in it atm, then just don't worry about it, until the models call you again, and they will. They're not women, you can just put them in the cupboard /garage and not play with them for a while, and they won't complain....😏🤣🤣

Might not be your bag  but..

If it is having no one to have RC banter with, you could try urm .....Facebook 🙈

Set up a private page, ' *your town* Tamiya '  then join and enquire on some of the larger FB groups (Tamiya Legends etc), post the link, and see if anyone joins?

I get bored sometimes too, and take long breaks, but I never 100% lose interest, it's just waiting for me sometimes. What has kept me going lately is trying to achieve my own visions and the experimental processes involved in trying to achieve certain goals. I've said in the past that I'm not a racer, even though I do have a little bit of interest, but most of the time when I have time for rc, I just want to build or modify stuff. I just like being in that leave me the heck alone zone sometimes when I'm building.

Another thing that may also be helping my interest in RC is documenting my progress and failures on the forum. The TC forum has been great for ideas and advice and I love the cool things that the members have done, which I use as inspiration for my own projects. Then there is the enjoyment of helping others in the RC space, although not all the time depending on the circumstances, because some people are just impossible to deal with.

Responding to OP - I feel your frustration but its honestly not worth worrying or overthinking things - you can't force a hobby/interest - its supposed to be fun and exciting... and if it isn't then find something else in the interim. I got into RC over 40 years ago... then moved onto other things... then came back to it 20 years ago.... then moved on to other things... and only last year picked up tools again. Its ok to walk away and return - don't beat yourself up about it - indeed its very natural for interests to wane sometimes ( in my case sometimes for a very long time! ). My only advice would be - don't sell your kit! When I got back into RC last year I was mightily pleased I never sold that original Dynastorm I had :D

I find my interests in my hobbies seem to go from mad passionate about it, to can't be bothered. I was heavily into RC for a long time, then the interest seemed to fade out, I had nowhere to run them, let alone build and maintain them, plus 90% of my collection is stored right at the back of a 40' storage container, so not readily available, even if I did want to do something. So I found my interests moved to something else, in this case, Hotwheels cars. I bought far too many, a large chunk of them are now sold, as again, my focus has shifted to other things. Then it was retro-hifi, walkmans, games consoles, and currently I love Bandai Chogokin robots from obscure Japanese Anime! But my spark for RC has been reignited by a few guys at work who have brought them in and run them around the workshop, plus @Grumpypants and a few others, always tempting me with a bargain, I really love RC again! It all goes around in circles for me, but I seem to rediscover my love for a hobby I've put aside for a while, then get 100% back into it again. It happens, and sometimes it good to walk away and have a break from something, because when you get back into it, you really enjoy it again.

If it helps in any way I can explain what helps me and my situation -

Taking breaks is a large aspect of any interest I have.  I go as far as having no display of WIP´s or finished builds of any kind out on shelves or display unless it is being run or worked on directly that moment.

This way there is an longing and anticipation that grows in the time away. You forget what you liked what you didn´t like and take that issue or opportunity in the moment with fresh eyes, and a fresh brain...

Example - When you are around say the same person, same job, eat the same food etc. You may get tired of the same old routine or seeing the same old thing.

So those weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly if you need to breaks help keep the fire burning.

Hope that helps.

Additionally nothing wrong with selling some items and investing in new boxes and builds :) it´s 99% of the fun.

My 2 cents.. I left the hobby 20 years ago but kept the cars. Then, got married, we got a son, and as he grew up I took them from the attic. Now I build together with him and have lots of fun.  So yeah it can take a while 😃

Anyway, as with any hobby its better do conduct it with other people. No-one around to share hobbies?

The best thing to do is take a break.   Don't sell stuff, and see if absence makes the heart grow fonder.

I find that I get anxiety when I get frustrated with something I'm working on and then take a break.   Now I just work on them in small increments but keep my feet moving forward.  This way I never stop my progress but I also don't just quit.

It's also good to have many hobbies.  This way you never really lose love with the one you're constantly engulfed in.

I have just resumed from a three year break, I got to the stage that I just had way too many unfinished projects which curbed  my enthusiasm. I haven’t run too many cars yet but I have started finishing projects, currently I have six bodies to cut, paint and decal which is my least favourite part of the hobby, my favourite part is rescuing vintage cars and hopping them up and getting them to the running stage, I must admit that I am shocked at the price increases during my break, lucky I am sitting on many , many parts that I have collected, time to get back to it and enjoy

This is going to sound sacrilegious on here. But try a ‘proper’ 2025 RC. A basher. A lipo powered, brushless basher. A Traxxas, an Arrma etc

This!!! Youll miss out on the building, and if you want to build just get the hop ups.  I got a XRT for my son and I. OH MY GOSH.  What a beast and a complete blast.

that reminds me, that's the part of some of the new kits I don't like, is so much RTR stuff out there.

like i really want a HPI BMW ///M3, but it's ready to run.   And I think even if you buy the creators kit, that's RTR too lol

I got bored in my teens, I left the hobby for years and came back in 2020. Fast forward to 2025 and now I am bored again, it seems to only be with Tamiya though, I do still have fun with my Arrma and Traxxas off road trucks.

The XRT is an incredible bit of kit!
