Hi,

I want to show my progress on my RC car. But, I can no longer attach files at all.

Under the message edit area it says "Drag files here to attach, or choose files...".
When I use the choose files option I get "Sorry, an unknown server error occurred when uploading this file.

Please contact us for assistance."
The file I try to upload is only 30kB or something. Am I the only one having this issue? Any alternative ways I should try?

Thanks.

I've tried various sizes, and various formats (webp, jpg, png) and neither dragging it into the window or "choose files" works - I get the same error message as the other posters.

I can select an existing attachment (from the "other media" tab) and that shows up.

I too am having the same issue with PMs to other members, but if I post a url that links to an image, then all is good.

The problem persists for me as well. Since there is not a public outcry about this, it may be related to specific accounts and not a problem for everybody.
Maybe some authorization rights are not set correctly or something.

It would be great if a forum maintainer could have a look at this. It does not seem to solve itself.

I tried again today, with a local photo from the computer (.jpg), and still no luck.

I know, I could set up Flickr or something and link from there, but since I am a subscriber, I'd rather use TCphoto (asked for access), but since that process is convoluted too, I am sort of stuck until someone in charge pulls some levers.

Perhaps @acprc could poke the boss? :)

That's what I'm thinking as well. The recent upgrade of the forum software may have reset some of the user permissions, or even caused a bug there. Could be something as simple as a version mismatch, between the base software and the image upload plugin, or something weird like that.

Pinging @netsmithUK:

Testing (with TCphoto):

https://tcphotos.net/image/zRl5L

(tried using the Other Media/Insert Image from URL too - no error message, but still won't process the link)

Tried another one - putting it into an album and trying from there:

https://tcphotos.net/album/zwha

(tried this one too as above, inserting image from url, got a bit further; it seems to process the image but after a while it goes back to the insertion window, no result)

I am inclined to think it is a authorization issue on the server side.

have tried every which way... different browsers... incognito windows... nothing.  can't post pictures.  errors.

does the site admin know?

seems like this hasn't worked in quite some time now....

I just remembered: weirdly enough, I have been able to post @Tamiyastefs photo (inserting the URL) ... but I can't post my own test photo from TCphotos ...

In that specific case is it most likely a permission thing, as I noted above.

I'm stuck on this too. Ive tried mac, windows, safari, chrome, firefox and edge. I've tried drag and drop, browse and select, single and multi, big and small. This feels like a server problem to me.

@JimBear I just copied the link from your TCphotos url above and it seems to work fine for me using the "other media" and "insert image from URL" and paste.

This is on a ten year old samsung mobile as i dont have a PC

I can get photos from an outside source (TCphotos, Flickr, etc) to show up (thanks to @Re-Bugged and his tutor skills), but I still can't get a local photo from my computer to show up.

I've done exactly what you just did, @Superluminal and this seems to work, as you write.

Here is the post from Mr Bug, in case someone needs it for linking from other sources than a local computer:

So is an external source required now or are there intentions to fix the site native attachments?

It's a pity, but I hope this will be "renistalled" in the near future. I always preferred pictures directly located in a forums webspace, instead of pictures from external hosters. Why? When the external hoster goes bonkers (or has the idea to make its members pay more money) all pictures are lost. If they're located in the forums webspace they won't get lost. There are many "older" threads with lost pictures, what I find quite sad.

Agreed that I'd rather upload directly to Tamiya Club Forums than have the images pulled from some image hosting site.

I will wait patiently for Tamiya Club Forums to have the issue fixed. Until then, I will continue building and taking photos of RCs and storing them on my laptop. The "What Have You Done Today" thread won't be true to the date, but it's ok to backdate it a little bit due to this.

I'm just as frustrated as you guys are, but let's look at some facts :

While I'm a newbie here, I've been around these sorts of forums (non RC stuff) for a very long time, since the late 90's

I've used, moderated and even owned similar sites to this using most likely similar software

In none of those places did it/we/I host users pictures, btw

Pics, and vids(!) takes up a huge amount of storage space compared to text and graphic layout on the forum

However, storage/cloud prices have come way down over the years

A 1000x1000px photo is about a half Mb. Storing 10.000 of those is nothing today

What I suspect, and fully understand, is that we may have a burnout of the very nice people running TC

If that is true, then please, PLEASE!, ask the community for help!

This site is way too important to go down the drain

I'm here for the tough work, if you need me

Luv,

Ole

DHRC you're right, but I'm for a local storage of pictures anyway. I am and was always willing to pay some extra bucks for that service if required. Done that in other forums with local image storage too. We spend so much money for our hobby, why not pay a little amount for a well appreciated service that keeps imagery where it belongs (I guess the most people here already do). Just my humble opinion.

I'm very much for local hosting pics by TC. It's so annoying to read old threads with pictures hosted by Photobucket (fvck that service and their money grabbing scheme holding millions of users hostage) Flickr might go down the same road

We're so used to the internet being free of charge, but if it's free it's because YOU are the product!

Back in the day (30-40 years ago) I paid thousands to get the monthly electronic/hifi/music making magazines. I learned a ton that way

That actually started my career as an electronic fixer/sound engineer/producer and made me a load of money

I luv the internet but dispise modern SoMe. So fleeting, so vapid, so ... not lasting

There's a subreddit deciated to Tamiya RC. It's what it is, but will it last? No, Reddit will be sold off again to harvest user info and go into oblivion like Digg or Twatter. And NOT be online to search for info in the decades to come

This forum has been going on for nearly two and a half decades and I can find almost ALL my questions answered just by a proper search (no thanx to **** Google though, that serice has also gone down the drain)

It's a giant library of all that is worth to know about a very specific hobby, Tamiya RC cars. It's THE site for us

There are members here who have spend countless of hours posting, replying, teaching and helping out

Kudos to YOU!

That is worth a pretty penny to me. Heck, I spend more on nuts'n'bolts than the subscribtion cost me

And I'm sure many of you are in the same boat

So, TC Admins, what can I do to help?

Cheers,

Ole

I like the convenience of uploading a quick photo from my local computer, but I've resorted to being a subscriber (as a an appreciation of all the work put in here) and so I've started to figure my way around TCphotos (which is included in that subscription if you want to use it). I am not exactly rich but to me the equivalence of a cheap servo or a couple of tyres a year is well invested money to me.

But I do think the (space limited) option of posting directly should be there. It's a good way to get new people in through the door, asking their first questions and perhaps having the need to post a photo of the thing they found in the barn.

As I don't see this will get fixed, is there any external site you guys can recommend?
