Well what with cheap air travel from Germany to England it could be possible!!

I recently took my g/f to the place I used to live in in Germany which was RAF Laarbruch and it's now a civillian airport Niedderhein-Dusseldorf and Ryan Air fly between here and Stanstead for the grand total of £78 including all taxes etc!!

How come Bratwurst/Bockwurst and Frickadellas taste sooo much better in Germany than the 'AUTHENTIC' ones I buy from Lidl here in the UK??

I hope we can repeat such a meeting with more members. Next time, we will/should announce it loud and clearly. I regard the last meeting as a small test.

There are many advantages of the terrain in Haltern like the fact that it's a huge and very versatile terrain, it has a nice onroad track too, it's in the northwest of germany between Bochum and Münster, it's easily accessible by the A43 motorway, the sand and water there is not salty, grass grows on some parts of the surface and even nice cliffs and paths for climbing and crawling can be found there.

The disadvantages are:

It's not 100% legal to stay there; there used to be fences which are mostly torn down. On warm summerdays, especially on sundays, there might be many people who are taking a sunbath or swim and/or grill. The most annoying thing is that most of the visitors leave a lot litter there.

The solution:

Since 1989, no more sand is being hauled and a lot of people visited the lake witout any problems. On one side of the lake, an official beach with entry fee was installled. Both sides of the lake are not crowded, when the weather is mixed like during our last meeting or when it has become colder. The litter problem cannot be really solved, but there are still many clean spots where we can run our cars.

Another idea might be a terrain in Duisburg Meiderich, which is also very close to my beloved Schurenbachhalde in Essen.

I would be glad if this thread gets some response please.

thanks

In case we manage to organize a larger meeting later that year, I will give away FREE "Bratwurst/Bockwurst and Frickadellas" to every NON-german TC member visiting us! Just to give you a taste of the real ones! [:P][:P][:D]

I'm pretty sure that especially supergreg will provide some food since he nearly starved to death last time. It was so funny, after the meeting, supergreg and me wanted to go to Pizza Hut in Bochum. After a long walk, where he continuously asked me if it's still far to the restaurant, we finally arrived at it only to find out that it was closed. Luckily we immediately found another restaurant.

For a larger meeting this year, you can always count on me. Would be great to meet more TC-members and the other ones from our first meeting in March this year.[:P]

Oh, is that castle Wolfenstein 3D? ;o) Ok, on these pictures it looks a bit dark and strange; just wanted to make sure that you all know the few cons of this terrain. I have been always driving on the beach of the Silbersee I that is marked in orange.

hi,

sure, i will take one of my wild willys with me B) i guess, i should realy update me showroom...

anyway, the area looks pretty cool with all the white sand and the lake (even when sharp barbwire and some wolfenstein-zombies cover the way to the beach)

Ok guys, are we already far enough to discuss a fixed date? What about you other german guys? Seblaser, DJTheo, Pajerodriver, motocrosser, Hummerfloete, Pandoras Kiste, AirForceOne, Mike BK, flughund, GerryG, Joe_Cool, doubleM, mabude, toto-gap, miramar, risoan, sandmann, meistersamler, Spatzel, beermoker are you still alive? [;)]

Come on, give us some feedback! I can't believe you already have had enough meetings with other Tamiya enthusiasts in the past. Why not give it a try?

btw: all foreign mates are also welcome! Bratwurst and Frikkadellas waiting [:P] ! Think about it...

Hi guys,

What would you think about an early September weekend ? I am more than happy to meet you other TC-members. I will bring my WW2 too, so we could organize a cool Wild Willy race ! [8D]

I'd like to come over and play. I think I could talk Air Force One into playing too. I'll take a hop from England and hook up with him somewhere in Germany. Sure am glad I get free flights anywhere in the world that has a Air Force base.[^]

You're welcome, minijosh! If you had not already mentioned 5 or 6 months ago your intention to arrive, I would hardly believe it. But, now I really hope you will come. We are thinking of a meeting in late october. If necessary, I can pick you up and provide all help needed like accomodation etc.

My date proposal for a meeting in Haltern (Germany): Saturday, the 23. Oktober 2004.

Why this?

1. some members are on a holiday in september/early oktober.

2. the weather is a bit colder, but not too cold, so there won't be a large crowd of picknickers or even nudists. Usually, october is very comfortable here in Germany, literally "golden".

3. We need some time to plan and prepare this fine event.

---

I would be more that happy, if members, who have already gained some knowledge in organizing such events, could help or contribute with their knowledge, PLEASE.

Someone needs to email AirForceOne and we will both come. I'll swing it with my wife. She shouldn't have that big of a problem with it. I sure wish some more of our UK brothers would take a cheap flight to go and play. Lets keep the date on the board so I don't forget. Hmm I hope my Clod is ready to play. I'll bring my Dyna Storm for sure.

emailing airforceone?: Who could do that better than you, Joshua? I guess that everybody welcomes him and that anybody could email him, but since you plan to come with him or via one of those airbases, I guess it's the best if you talk to him. And by the way, it was your idea, so finish your work. [:D] If you need to be picked up or if you are looking for a hotel or whatever, you can count on me.

Well I'm deployed right now. I should be working but here I am. I've emailed him a few times and he is now not responding. I hope he's still in the country. Errrr Germany I mean.

I'm not sure anymore, if a larger meeting in Haltern is a good idea. Please regard all of my postings to this subject as obsolete.

I am deeply sorry for any inconvenience, but I think that it's too risky for non-local members to come along - they might be disappointed. I don't have any experience in organizing a larger event and the response to this thread was rather weak.

I am still interested in loose local meetings, no doubt about that please!

You're kidding right about not doing it??? I just got ahold of AF1 and he's in too. I hope it's not over the Halloween vacation. I've been in England for 3 years and have never taken my daughter trick or treating and this will be my first time to do it.

I'd love to come to a Germany meet! I've been hoping for one since I got here. I could come out any time. Josh, you'd probably end up in Rhein Mein instead of Ramstein, but that's right next to Frankfurt. I'll drive anywhere, all I need is a good set of directions from the A5/A6 autobahn.
