Is it still Ebay, despite all its faults?

I've not been on here making much, a few health things are taking their toll, and I want to spent the extra energy and time I do have with family more.

With an absurdly large collection I find my more of my time managing, tweaking or choosing what goes in the loft vs downstairs and they are taking over the house, as well as 'projects'.

So, although I don't want to sell them all, selling some would help me enjoy the ones that stay.

What's the best method?

Sell as runners or take out electronics and sell separately?

Ebay or somewhere else?

I am not interested in getting max £££ from them, just would like to get something and then know they are going where they might be enjoyed. Plus not deal with hassle.

About 7 or 8 will have to stay, but really feel I've got more than I could ever use, and I am hardly using them now...

Sorry to read about your health, hopefully it improves swiftly for you.

I still find eBay the easiest way to sell my surplus RC kit.

Plenty of good photos and a clear concise description (not too wordy), is my approach.

I always tidy up the models (dust, wipe)  and I sell with the electronics if they are already fitted - but otherwise they are sold as they are.

First off @Nikko85, I am sorry to hear of your health issues.
I am not on social media myself so I am using eBay.  The fees are awful but for me it has provided the best combination of speed and satisfaction.  I have sold here with some luck but it will take longer and for me being in the US hurts due to shipping costs.

As with any typical Tamiya entheusiast my first thought is 'Oooh whats he selling???' rather than answering your question. But yes I would be interested in what your moving on if your in the UK and have what im looking for. I shall PM you after this post to see where your from and list the cars/buggies I'm after.

You will get more selling elecs and car/buggy seperately but this will more than double your time listing them on various platforms. (vehicle with elecs (1) verses vehicle, servo, motor, esc (4))

Also I find a vehicle will gain more interest with elecs included even if theyre cheap stuff as its almost deemed a little bargainy plus sometimes its a bit of a cookie when seller doesnt specify too much on the elecs, as an example Ive ended up with terrible elecs but also some great stuff which makes it a bargain.

I list mine on TC, ebay and FB pages at the same time and see what happens, it does seem nowadays its very hit and miss selling regarding getting a good price for your items.  I tjhink the market is becoming somewhat stagnent of late.

I generally as a buyer keep my eye open all the time on all platforms for stuff im after and also keep my eye on sellers that ive already had good trades with especially on TC. As an example Ive bought a few vehicles off Grumpypants above and hes an honest trustworthy seller who doesnt mess about.

PS I hope things work out for you ;)

Yes, Ebay with all its faults is still the best place to move R/C items. With the fee's Ebay charges now you are looking at around 13-14% of the total selling price. I have tried marketplace, but everyone there thinks they are entitled to a "deal", and will low ball you.

I can understand the idea. Family and health goes before anything else - here's to you getting better!

As much faff it is with Ebay, I guess it is the place if you want to "get rid of" things. TC seems slow, and FB ... not so sure about it. In general, but that's me. :)

You could list your items on this site in the sales section, one of the members may well be interested in one or more of your items.

Ive never had any luck with wanted ads, but things do tend to sell here.

Ebay is always best for exposure but the recent HMRC reporting is understandably a bit off putting.

I'm pretty sure the average Joe will never be affected, even if they go significantly over the reporting limit, but nobody wants the potential hassle.

I expect a lot of people will wait and see how it pans out.

Being a business seller, I don't really want the potential hassle of it interfering with my business account, so for now I have stayed within the limits on my private account.

Not having ebay as an option definitely makes things a bit more difficult, but I have found Facebook market can work OK if you're in a lot of RC buy/sell groups and cross post. You do get a lot of time wasters and it can take longer to get a genuine buyer, but things have gone pretty well, so far.

I find gumtree very slow these days. Vinted can be ok but a lot of lowball offers and people don't really read the descriptions whatsoever (the layout of the site doesn't really encourage it, either, IMO)

I often get caught in the cycle of trying to decide between selling complete, as a rolling chassis, or selling as is if it's incomplete/ meeds work. I tend to caught up in that and end up doing nothing at all and it just sits there gathering dust for another year.

It's like with selling my kids old playmobil and lego etc. It brings me out in a cold sweat thinking about selling incomplete sets etc but then the prospect of trying to track down those 1 or 2 missing parts is just as bad and suddenly it's the same issue of being paralysed and the toys gathering dust.

Blimey! The add on youtube says it is free to sell on ebay now. Are they telling fibs and charging via a backdoor or something?

Sorry to hear about health issues. Hopefully nothing prolonged.

I tend to use forums first, then Facebook and eBay is the last resort.

Forum: given that you are in the UK, RCtech and RCgroups are less ideal side to shipping. Yet they do have a good crowd of hobbyist

Facebook, I would post in a Tamiya group rather than their market place. This will minimise the scammers to beware.

eBay has the widest audience but their greed is a turn off. If you sell your items for $250. They calculate their 13% fee after sales tax and shipping is applied. Thats beyond greedy

eBay doesn’t  charge fees to seller in the U.K, unless you are a business.

eBay make their money on the buyer protection fees, which is compulsory added to the cost of the purchase price and probably on the Evri courier fees.
