Hi all,

Another fellow TC member and I are trying to understand if there is enough interest from all you collectors and TC members out there in the US to try and organize a collectors event somewhere in the Great Lakes area. Dependent upon the response and the amount of interest would obivously determine the size of the event, but we both are thinking big. It would include (controlled) races on either a indoor or outdoor dirt track, possibly prizes or trophies, concourse show (where you do not have to race), a swap meet, representation from local shops, hopefully some representation from a manufacturer or two, etc.

I always see the TC members from the European countries with the large gatherings. I have never seen anything advertised state side and think it would be a great time.

Please post some responses with your thoughts, suggestions, etc. or feel free to contact me directly via email. Thanks and I really hope there is enough interest for this to come together!

Come on guys, there has to more interest than this. Sonic posted a thread about winter drive (I believe over in the UK) and has tons of interest. Is there anyone else out there? There has to be?

Hi, I'm new here and I'm glad I found this website. I would be interested in a Tamiya meet somewhere in the midwest, maybe Chicago area? Im located in Iowa about 2.5 hours from Chicago. I just started collecting Tamiya cars.

Thanks for your interest Robb and Guy, but at the rate things are going with the responses, I am not sure that an event could materialize. We were hoping for some more interest. Maybe as we get further into it and get some details nailed down, that will change. We are not giving up yet. I will keep you guys posted. Thanks again and have a great day!

Count me in. I could happen but we would need to go beyond the scope of Tamiyaclub. I am willing to work with somebody to get this to happen. I think it would have to be part swap meet to really make it worthwhile. Jim

I hear ya burp, my thought was to make sure those whom attended thought that it was not a waste of time and did not go away with the thought of "I'll never come to this again."

Anyone know what happened with the other US event that was being planned? The thread just seemed to die.

Jim, I figured you would be into the swap thing. I keep buying from you. Can I get the early bird special?

Interest still seems to be somewhat low. Not exactly sure why, but I am not giving up. What did you mean by going outside of TC specifically? What did you have in mind?

Checking in from South Bend . I have a couple people , besides myself , that would show up for something like that . Well , as long as we had enough notice of when and where it was ( and its not three states away :-) lol ). Though , you know you want to hold it in South Bend , Indiana , home of the fighting Omish ...errrr Fighting Irish ( Noter Dame for those that didnt get that ) [:D]

Too bad there is no real air force base close to South Bend or I'd catch a plane in to play rc cars with yall. I use to live in Martinsville,Indiana a long time ago. I got family all over there. I could fly into Ohio but I'd have no way to get to you guys.

Dayton is on my way to South Bend Isnt that Boilmaker country anyway? I have a pickup and plenty of room for cars I think I can have bout 7 ready to go with radio's. I have vacation due, Dec 16 is my last full day of work for the year(stock pile vacation it pays off).

Funny thing about the US, I am sure we have more members here but it is so spread out to get anything together. In the UK it is a matter of loading up the car with all your stuff and half a days drive can get you to were you need to go. We seem so spread out here that the logistics seem to be a hurdle. For me anything that involves a plane is going to be a no go, no way will I let my cars go through airport lugage handling.

I wish you the best of luck though,

James.

I just had to dig up this old buried thread today because I'd REALLY like to see this gathering happen. Me and Motorsport Jay talked about it earlier, but it didn't really go anywhere.

So today I was talking with a local racer/collector and he was telling me about how he use to start these shows. After the first 2 or 3 shows the word spread like wild fire because there were so many people out there that were interested. By the time the fourth show came he said people were coming from all over.

I have a good friend that is a manager of a hotel located just north of Detroit, and he said we could have a show in one of the meeting rooms for a fraction of the regular price. All you guys with very long drives could stay in the rooms right there at the hotel the day before/after or even drive/fly in the morning of the show with hotel courtesy transportation from the airport to the hotel.

If you guys are still interested in making a "TAMIYA COLLECTORS SHOW" happen let me know and I think we could make it something really special. Plus if the show really takes off we could make it a annual show with collectors from all over the world show up.

Lets here your thoughts guys... If you guys think you'd come when would be the best time of the year to hold the show?

You don't have to ask me if I would be in, as we already talked about it.

I know Voltar (Jim), Woober Goober (Scott, in I think Fenton or Fowlerville), scollins (Steve, Fraser area) all would be in. There is another guy in Carelton (south of me), cannot remember his name. Those are just the guys that either said that they would come or are close to the area.

As you have been trying to arrange, we need to get together to talk about it to work out the details (assuming you let me think things over and over, LOL!)

I'd be in too - I'm located in Canton, MI...

I wasn't a TamiyaClub member when this thread first started up, but now it's been resurrected I think it would be great to meet up.

I'd be up for a drive at a local MetroPark one weekend (before it get's too cold) if anyone else was up for it?

Yep, not far at all. Check your e-mail for more exact location.

I occasionally take my Stadium Blitzer and/or Pajero Sport to Willows Metro Park (there's a nice gravel car park and some loose/muddy areas there [:D]).

Maybe a few of us from S.E. Michigan could have an informal gathering - I'm open to suggestions on location.

Sorry for taking the thread a little of topic... [:I]

Cheers

Hay, count me in. I live in Royal Oak(near Detroit). While I dont have much in the lines of vintage tamiya, I have a lot of newer ones. Im looking for a tamiya only event or just some cool places to bash.

Hey Jay,

Just got your message. badword yes! That would be a great thing to do. We could start with a tentative month, at this point, for next year, and we can all keep pushing this thread along, to potentially gain more interest.

I remember back in the 80s, there was a track in Detroit, that a couple of the Pros (Jammin Jay) said was the best in the u.S. There was definately action going on back then, but you would not know it anymore. Too bad really- I remember going to one of the suburbs of Detroit, and they had a big RC truck pull each year, and it was awesome! After the truck pull, they had the swap meet, and even a crash up derby!

Anyways, Ill monitor this thread, and we know how to contact each other. I know JSourbeck lives in Grand Rapids- I can tell you from some very solid rumors, that Mr. Sourbeck has a very serious collection. Im going to see if I can contact him and give him a heads up.

There is also a British Engineer, that works down in the Detroit Area, who I spoke to once. Ill see if I can find his contact info as well.

Minijosh- If you were able to fly in to OH, we should have no problems picking you up.

Twmaster used to be pretty active on TC, but I have not spoke to him in months. We are both in the same business, and I know he has been pretty busy as of late. He is out if Maryland, but I am quite certain he would be interested.

This sounds very cool. Even if we can not get a ton of people the first time, it sure would be cool to get together with some like minded friends and spend a 3 or 4 day weekend just talking, racing, fixing, swapping- old, new, tamiya and we must make a little room for Kyosho guys (guilty!).

Next year, spring perhaps?

WG,

You have to be specific as which Jay you are talking to... LOL... Voltar gets both of us mixed up, gixer and images (both Jay's).

I talked to David, the British Engineer, he is just a stones throw away from me in Canton. He is in.

Gixer and I talked, we agree, use the time over the winter to gen interest, then hold it in the Spring, so we can all be outside.

I know there are more hidden TC lovers in the Midwest, come on out of the closet ya'll!

We should post in other forums also. Gixer is a memeber in quite a few of them.

Have a great weekend!

This is great! The more the better!

Woober - I was the one that sent you the e-mail about this thread. Very happy to see your interested, and your not far from me at all being from Flushing ( Flint )and your in Fowlerville.

I agree, to many "JIM's" and "JAY's"!! Lets just stick to our user names. Gixer, Image, Voltar, Sourbeck, Shodog, ect, ect. LOL

I sent an e-mail to Sourbeck, but he has not replied. Woober, you might want to try an contact him.

This is really going to take off, so keep pushing it guys.[:D] As Image said I'm on many, many other web forums and know tons of people from traveling around racing. I'll be starting new threads on those sites to keep the word spreading. Almost all the people on these sites are in the Michigan, Ohio, Indiana area. There are a lot of people that I know that are not even collectors, but are very interested in my collecting and would love to come to a "COLLECTORS SHOW" They would all come just to see the classics and talk about the memories.[;)]
