Found a "New" club that's trying to get off the ground in Birmingham. They meet on a Sunday morning at an unused BMX track in the park in the same grounds as the Alexandra Stadium, Perry Barr. I went along this morning, great people and a fantastic track. At the moment you can just turn up and run what what you have but once off the ground they intend to race Buggy's and monster trucks to the usual rules..

Like I said, had a top morning but managed to break both the TNX (half shaft) and Revo (yet another shock mount) but that's another story.

I only saw nitro buggy's and trucks there last week but until the club starts for "real" I'm sure things like the Emaxx etc would be fine. Its a bit rough for the likes of Blackfoots etc, I don't think they'd last long. I will be there again this Sunday (12/12)

If the guy is charging and you are receiving nothing in return then refuse to pay. It's public land, and the council would be interested in hearing that he is charging for an event without the relevant insurance and permissions (trust me, councils want a lot of insurance cover for holding events on their land). I'm not sure if it's against the law, but it is probably against the byelaws in force at the park, the council would be able to advise you.

If however you are receiving something in return (like timing equipment and organised racing) then charging is reasonable. Whether £7 is a reasonable amount is debatable though, but if the racing is being run well, and the insurance is arranged, you will probably have to pay that sort of money.

But for that money I would expect a track which was closed to the general public, and with a proper set of rules and organisation, not just a bash meet in a normal public park.

I have been told there was an article in the local free newspaper (Sutton area of Birmingham) where people were infact complaining that he was stopping members of the public from using the track. I did question him about liability insurance as he stopped, (tried, we just ran them on a disused part with loads of interest from onlookers much to his disgust!) me and another guy from running Marders on the track. He stated that they were to dangerous and to get insurance he promised the council they would not run petrol cars (someone explain what nitros run on). He could not produce the certificate to me that morning though.. There was a strange smell on his breath, reminded me of bulls!

There was no sign of any timimg equipment and no organisation!

Just dont go on a Sunday morning! He can poke it!

Sounds like the guy has got a real cheek then. What he is doing would be the same as charging people to go into a park and have a kick around with a football, or walk the dog. Surely that's illegal, I wonder if a visit from the local bobbies would be a way to stop him?

Surely if it's just the one guy then he can't do a great deal to stop you anyway. What could he do if 5 of you turn up and decide to run your cars? By the sounds of it he won't be able to get the police to back him up, and if he threatens you or becomes violent then the law would be on your side.

Went this Sunday which was the first time he tried to charge £7 for using "his" track just to see what the response was... Two thirds of the people from previous weeks were not there! I watched two heats, one of monster trucks the other buggy's, three trucks running one of which was his and five buggy's, again one was his. Speaks for itself!
