Meeting in germany - Bergstraße/Hessen

Hi, that's my first topic in the forum and I think it's a good start.

I just checked if I can do some meetings on the area where I go Off-Roading. It's owned by a building company. And I was told I can. [] It's in Sandwiese, 5 minutes away from my house, right in the middle between Frankfurt/Main and Heidelberg. Direcly on the A5, easy to find. Sundays are no problem at all and on saturdays we mustn't disturb their trucks and earthmoving traffic. But that's natural, I think. There's always enough space.

The area doesn´t look bad. I agree with technical.burp. A bit rough.

But maybe we could make a track with a plan surface ourself ?

If it´s sand, it could be done.

The hills and slopes look well suited for crawling adventures. More than 200km from here sounds a bit tough though, but maybe we'll meet each other in the middle some day. Have you ever been to Mendig gravel pit? would be 100km for each of us...

Ich wollte auch noch mal kurz sagen, dass ich jegliches Engagement bzgl. eines Treffens sehr schätze. Die Treffen machen Tamiyaclub erst lebendig. Ich weiß ja aus eigener Erfahrung, wie schwer es ist ein geeignetes Terrain zu finden. Selbst Haltern, was meines Erachtens ein sehr guter Treffpunkt ist, wurde in einigen Punkten kritisiert. Es gibt aber kein perfektes Terrain, es sei denn man baut eines selber. Das nennt man dan Terraforming ;o)

Klar ist es nicht perfekt. Die LKWs und Bagger fahren das meiste Glatte platt und je nach Wetter Furchen hinein, und ich gehe oft mit Schaufel und Rechen hin und mache eine Fläche zurecht, wenn ich mir den ganzen Sonntag nehme. Geht recht schnell. Es ist ja genug Sand da, um eine lose Schicht aufzutragen - Terraforming. [] Meistens findet sich aber genug guter Platz, um nur schnell 'ne Runde zu drehen. Ich kann auch immer nur Momentaufnahmen machen. Dadurch, daß es einen Tag vorher geregnet hatte, sind die Spuren ect. auf den Bildern halt entsprechen tief und hart. Im Sommer ist das ein geringeres Problem. Außerdem weht dann auch immer loser Sand von den "Bergen" runter... Zum Trialen ist es aber Ideal. Da gibt es immer Hügel, die super ausgehärtet sind, einerseits, und butterweiche andererseits.

Ich war heute wieder da und habe Bilder gemacht. Ich werde versuchen, sie gleich noch zu posten.

Mendig kenne ich leider nicht, wo ist das genau?

Mendig is located near Koblenz. The gavel pit is easily accessible from highway. The site consists of huge areas of hard flat terrain (thats where the Marders and Savages are) and massive hills with flat plateaus on top made of soft ashes, which are well suited for vintage cars. Con: The ashes contains fragments of metallic residue, which will stick to you motor housing due to magnetic force. You will have to tape the motor holes or it will get damaged when the grains get in. Anyway you will have a tough cleaning job afterwards (as always when driving through ashes).
