here are some preview pics of my Wild TLT-Willy - I haven't had the time to work on any of my projects for a while, but this is getting close now.

I love the Wild Willy, and I like the concept of crawling - anyone who has tried combining the two knows it's kinda hopeless - poping wheelies isn't the best feature for a crawler! When the TLT-1 was released, I got some ideas. So with the TLT-1 Rockbuster as a start, this is what I ended up with, not much parts from the TLT anymore though.

The pics are taken indoors, and I will take some way better/cooler pics when I have it done, but these will give you an idea of the progress so far.

Here are the parts I've choosen:

TLT-1 Rockbuster

Penguin RC carbon chassis

Matrix Pro Lathe Motor 55T Single

XC difflocks (both axles)

Slipper pegs in the centre diff

King Cab wheels

Monster Spikes

WW2 body w/WW1 mods

I will make a split battery to level the weight soon, as well as finishing off the last details.

This truck sits a good bit higher than the stock TLT, thanks to the wheels/tyres as well as the chassis from Penguin. It has better articulation (see front servo mount) and is quite a bit lighter (part from the body).

I really dig the proportions on this now - IMO the stock TLT looks bad and nuttin' beats the WildWilly. More on this* as it evolves...

I like it. The chassis looks like it fits the body well. I bet it will work killer. My only suggestion would be two sets of rear WW2 wheels instead. At first glance it would look stock but then you would do a double take after seeing the TLT chassis.

yeah Jim, I though about that at first, but decided that I wanted even more ground clearance, and the Monster Spikes don't fit the WW2 wheels (which I don't really like anyway - the chrome that is) and last but not least, I like the proportions of the narrower wheels better too!

My WW2 has seen the same mods (tyre wise) with extended driveshafts that makes it more stable - I like the proportions way better than the original set up.

That's great! All you had to do was attach the Willy body mount posts to the TLT frame? Were there existing holes to do so or did you have to drill your own?

I used the existing holes in the body, but that is not the original body mounts! I used suitable mounts from various Tamiya kits, can't remeber which ones at this point.

I also had to cut away some of the underside of the body to get it down low as possible - which is also why Willy himself is missing so far - his is undergoing surgery, hi is about to get his feet cut off[8)].

Its looking really good Simen, the proportions are really nice[:)]

have you seen the new 2.2 tire that Imex is coming out with next month? I think its called the "All T", they have a clod version of it already out, might be a nice crawling tire, the sidewall looks to be pretty tall as well[;)] Probably close to bruiser tire proportions.

I am painting up a Willy 2 for Wendy so i may use these tires on it as well.

the metallic green paint is a nice touch[^]

sounds interesting Matt, do you have some pics?

Edit: Found the pics:

sorry, it's only the crappy pics, the color is Light Gun Metal Metalic - it looks way better in real life, more pics will come when I finish it off!

Might not be just you - to me, especially in the second pic, the car seems to have a greenish tint to it. Coudl also depend on what kind of monitor you have. But maybe it's becasue it's a Wild Willy - when you hear that name or see that shape, you think 'army green'... [;)]

That willy looks sweet. Just for giggle, I set my willy body on my TLT also and that that would make a cool combo. I know you used th ewhite wheels to give it that original ww1 look but have you thought about switching them out for a set of the chrome King Blackfoot wheels?

I'm not to fond of chrome wheels, but I have been playing with the idea og getting some matt black ones (but I was trying to save that for another upcoming WW project)

if you wanna fit a WW body to the TLT-1, you need to cut away some of the plastic underneath, you see waht I mean - no sweat though, the parts needed to be cut away is of no use even when using it on a stock WW2.
