I picked up the last 8 copies at my local WH Smith this morning, and just as I was about to drag them to the checkout an upset looking chap who had been looking all day for them asked me if I could spare it - I was going to say no, but then I was overcome by kindness and let him have one of them. So, 7 wheels instead of 8..... I had a look locally and finally found a large newsagent which had a copy of it. There was no magazine or video on it though, so they let me have it for 50p instead of 99p [:D]

I think that they have flown off the shelves rather quickly though; I pity the marketing team who decided it would be a good idea to mount a wheel and tyre on the special price Issue 1, big mistake!

do you know if the tyres will fit 3 speed bruiser wheels ?

Well they are a loose fit on Pumpkin rims and nice and tight on Blitzer Rims, so if they are 2.2's you will be all right any smaller and you see the beading and they slip on the rims.

Have just watched the video which came the part 1 ( yes, very sad I know... ) and it looks as though the engine comes in bits over several weeks and you then have to assemble it - guess this will make it rather pricey. [:(!]

Have tried looking for Hachette's web site but not found anything yet. Wonder what the spares back-up will be like...

You know where you are with Tamiya on this score.

id="quote">id="quote">

Parts will be easy to get as it's a Thunder Tiger SSK so is imported by Amerang. Cost is ridiculous, including fuel and batteries you are looking at £470.97! To buy an RTR SSK with fuel you are looking at just under £250[:0]

Had seen the ad on the TV then read this thread, so went down to the local newsagent. He hasn't shifted a copy since it came out so I bought the box off him...............12 issues for £10[:D][:D][:D][:D]

So that's three sets stinking up the bedroom........12 videos....and 12 mags with assorted inserts to light the fire with.

Chuffed....thanks for the heads up on this Tamiyabigstuff.

er, silly question but does this mean issues 2,3 and 4 will also be wheel/tyre packages? Could be in for cheap tyres for quite some time!!

Also wonder what issue the shell comes with? If the normal price is £3.99 for an issue that'd be one cheap shell!! [8D]

Issue 1 is 99p

Issue 2 is £3.99

Then all further issues are £5.99

when the other wheels are published you can bet they will have another different part on them so you have to buy the issue.

i know its a live link but no one in their right mind would do this.

will the wheel fit a clod?

id="quote">id="quote">

No the Clod uses a spigot mount not a hex

Part 2 has a shock and some diff parts, I'm gonna get one to see if the shock is any good, it looks ok from what i've seen in the mag and on the video.

Yes I watched the video as well and found it quite funny...

(1.)It shows the pressure feed from the exhaust pipe to fuel tank just goes into a hole in the pipe!!

So what stops it just blowing out??

(2.)To start the engine it says 'Remove the pressure feed from the exhaust,blow into it until the fuel can be seen entering the carb...'

Errr HELLO who wants to stick a silicon pipe in their mouth which is going to be covered with the sticky gunge that burnt nitro fuel becomes?? NOT to mention Nitro fuel IS VERY poisonous!! Remember science at school?? Methanol is a wood based alcohol and causes blindness!!

(3.)It shows how to build the engine from parts!!

Hmmm I can see lots of irate people going to their LHS with engine problems AND NO mention about running-in!!

Just glad I don't work in a model shop!!

Well the pressure feed just push fitting into the exhaust does work beleive it or not,my HPI Nitro Rally had a similar set up when I changed the exhaust for a different one.

Also to prime it it would be easier to put your finger over the exhaust outlet and pull the pull start a few times to draw fuel into the carb,eaiser than going blind from a mouthful of Nitro anyway.

id="quote">id="quote">

the so called massive monster truck wheels are tiny lol.

i managed to find 2 copies! it must be all you guys getting there before me [;)]

the foam inserts went straight into my pumpkins rear tyres - and slightly improved its handling [:P] the tyres look nice on my old monster beetle aswell [8D]

how come the wheels aint chrome!!! silver painted rubbish [V] rubbish would also be a good word to describe the overall look of the truck in my opinion. couldnt you buy a tamiya tnx for the sort of money this kit is going to cost???

but yea the shocks look intresting, but apart from that the tyres look like the only other well made thing in the kit.

and if they can manage to use up 2 pages just on instructions to fit a tyre to a wheel, imagine how big the engine instructions will be!

the radio gear looks pretty crud too...

but look - subscribe and you get a free torch [8D] i'm sold [;)]

The tyres look good and handle well on the Monster Beetle. Shame that I just bought myself a new set of 4 NIP MB tyres before Xmas [8)]. Ah well, I've got 8 spares now [8D]

Have you tried asking your newsagent to put issue 1 on back order.

Usually when magazines are unsold they are returned to the distributors warehouse and shipped out to back orders.

But be quick i can hear a stampede approaching[:0]

it seems issue two of the magazine is now available, has anyone bought it and if so what do you think of the shocker that comes with it[?]

LOL! Been reading this thread with great interest! I love a bargain, but unfortunately I don't have any off-road tamiyas yet to use a new cheap set of wheels and tyres on! [:(]

As previously said though, I pity the marketing team too! Someone's head is going to roll. Surely it would have been more sensible to put 2 wheels and inserts on the first issue for example, with tyres to follow later at a sensible price?!

I can just imagine the back-slapping and congratulations that are happening at HQ now, after a screaming success of the first issue thanks to you lot.. "just think how much profit we'll be making if most of the people who bought the first issue end up spending £470 total!" [:P]

Tim

PS: Any news on the shock yet? Any chance it'll work on a WW2?! [;)]

I've looked at this thread long enough, seems like you are all interested in a good bargain so im goin to let you in on a little hint. When a newsagent gets in a partwork magazine for the first time they get in say 10-15 copies of the first few issues to trial them to see roughly how many they will sell each week . after say issue 3 the news agent has to agree on a set amount. so they order maybe 8 issues every week. now here is where the bargains come, a few months on from the first set amount issue they will have many leftover issues which they cant send back to the distributor, so their only choice is to either bin them or sell them off for tiny amounts. so they will put out all these excess issues out by the counter in a box for maybe £1 or lessper issue. i know people who have gotten five 2 ch recievers and a bunch of servos for €5 and other people who got three engines for €30.

i know its a mouth full but keep an eye out for these bargain boxs or under priced issues.
