What prevents interference between the reciever part and the speedo part. I always thought that if you put a reciever near a speedo it would get interference.

Which leads me to my next question, does a reciever placed ontop of a servo cause interference? I have an evo 3 that has really limited space and the manual says to stand the reciever on its side and stick behind the sevo. I have a super rooster control in the car so there is no space left! The only spare space for the reciever is ontop the servo which is what i was a little concerned over! Yes i know i picked probably the largest speedo ever made but its so good i really wanted to use it. If it helps (or changes) things, i have got a novak xxl reciever on 27mhz.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Shielding.

Yes, ideally they should be separated.

No. Although the servo's motor could cause some RF, any decent motor would have enough suppression designed into it.

Its RX and ESCs that shouldn't sit too close to one another.

On Evo3 have had to dig out the smallest RX (KO 293A) I could find, then use a Novak Cyclone to fit both onth the deck. Although both could jam in there flat, decided to stand the RX up instead butted against the servo. This gave the ESC some spare room, about 8mm on either side between motor and RX. Have not found any problems (yet).

With Evo3 do remember its a graphite chassis. These are big conductive plates, and can do funny things with RF signals - especially intermittant glitching.

FM RXes should be a little more impervious, but if you have problems some extra shielding with some tinfoil wrapping might help. Or stand it on edge so that the xtal is perpendicular to the FETs. Where it travels near the chassis plate/s, antenna's wire could also be run thru some fueltube for more insulation.

The main drawback with putting your RX atop the servo is weight & balance - its high up and raises your car's COG. But then again, the guys that worry about this kind of minutae probably all race with ESCs that are 1/4 the weight of a SuperRooster.

Thats probably true. I know i could just buy the top of the range reversing LRP Quantom as they are really small but i love the super rooster as its never let me down aqnd so why mess with proven technology? If there is no interference problem then its going ontop of the servo.

Just to throw a spanner in the works, Modelsport have just delivered my xxl i ordered a couple of days back. They sent me 40mhz FM one and all my equipment is 27 AM. (I evn ordered over £30 worth of crystals for 27mhz at the same time, what did they think i was going to use them in??? Guess it will have to go back. They only charged me the 27mhz version though as the 40 is £10 dearer so it would have been a good price, just dont have the TX or crystals to use it! [:(]

my tc-3 has limited space aswell for electronics,i use a tekin speed controll, and a futaba servo, and i use a hitec shredder reciever which i placed on top of the servo,i have no problems at all,no glitches,or interference....
