Ive read in these forums about a P-Sung no limit ESC for £45.00. The comments seem to be from around a year ago so I just wondered for those that have one of these how they have performed ( good/bad points )and would they recommend one now. One point I am worried about is people said how poor they were in the wet, even for an ESC, is this still true?

Many thanks

Hi 2fast, I'm still running one of my Ripmax no-limit ESC's (same as the P-Sung) in my Avante2001. It stopped working for a while after getting a few drops of water on it and it only now works in forwards only mode! (I have tried using setup to enable reverse but to no avail)

The second one packed up completely within days of purchase, that just went crazy, again after getting a few splashes of water on it. The **** thing jammed in full throttle.

I wouldn't recommend these units at all unless you will ONLY run in dry condition - that more or less excludes the UK!

I know very few ESC's will survive lots of water unless like Mtroniks units they are built waterproof but I've got other ESC's, specifically the futaba MC230CR units which have withstood constant abuse, being covered in water and mud and still survive. To be fair to these cheap P-Sung/Ripmax units I've also had very expensive Novak ESC's fail on me after having water splashed on them. The thing with the futaba units is they stop dead when saoked and then after drying out they work just as before with no problems [8D]

I generally run Mtroniks in anything that gets wet unless I've got the ESC in a waterproof box. I like to run my cars as much as possible and in the North East of England where I live that pretty much means running in rain or at least damp conditions.

From your question it sounds like you are most concerned about wet weather performance? Have you not considered an Mtroniks unit? You'd get the Sport RV 15 for the same £45 and they are excellent units. I have several of them and they have never failed, never overheated and been extremely reliable if a bit poor in the reverse and brakes department. True they are only 15turn limit but that covers most uses really? especially in wet conditions.

On the plus point the Ripmax no-limit has great throttle response and good brakes, easy setup and takes extreme abuse (other than water) well - I'm running mine with 8.4v packs thru a Dyna Run super touring motor (13t), been running like that for over a year with no problems other than the aforementioned lack of reverse.[:D]

Thanks for the info mate, I live in the midlands ( Lincoln ) so typical weather is rain and damp lol. Ive got a Twin Det so would need quite a good ESC to power both motors and the fact I got it to trash and bash. From your info I think I'll go for the Mtronics RV11.

Thanks again

I have a Ripmax No Limits, and it's never got wet, but was used in a touring car racer and now only works forwards. In my Twin Det I've got an Mtronics RV Sport Max and it's first run was in the wet (Snetterton last year) and it's been fine. I haven't run it much in the wet since, but it was certainly okay for that cold and damp weekend. I've got Mag Mayhems in the TD now, and the Mtronics handles them with no problems. So I would recommend an Mtronics. I notice jayjay has one of these for trade at the moment.

I've done most of my shopping online as I cant find a decent LHS in Lincoln, Ive tried one on Portland street that mainly deals with aircraft and just found another but that one mainly had toy trains and a few nitro cars. Apparently there is an Access models in Grantham which is supposed to be quite good so plan on going there in the next couple of weeks. I live just outside the city centre near the Waddington RAF camp and know Cranwell pretty well as I used to live near there a couple of years ago lol.

Cheers

Portland street that'll be Aerodinamics then, he's mainly an aeroplane/Heli man.

Hobbins which is on the High Street above blockbuster video wasn't too bad, not sure what he's like now as it's been taken over since the last time I went.

B&H on corporation street is normally fairly good for bits and pieces.

Access Models have 2 shops one in Grantham in the market place and one in Newark on Castlegate, they are probably one of the best in the area for Tamiya stuff nearly always have a fairly concise range of spares in!!

So what made you move from sunny Sleaford-shire??

Well I lived at Digby - just up the road from Cranwell as I was in the RAF hence I know Cranwell pretty well!. I find it a shame there isnt a decent LHS I can support as talking in person is always better but I also found some of the prices were very high eg £130.00 for the TD kit!. I'm still on the lookout for decent spot to drive so if you have found any near on give us a shout - I know there is an excavation site between Lincoln and Digby that should closed over weekends so going to check that out once I buy more batteries lol. ( the TD just eats them up lol ).

Yeah noe I think about it, didn't you e-mail me asking for places in or around Lincs to get a Twin Det??

Do you mean Johnstones' Quarry at Metheringham??

If so and you do go there then be careful as part of it IS a working quarry and they will not be happy if you're there!!

the other part is leased to Lincoln Offroad Motorcycle and Car Club or something like that and they don't take kindly to non-members using THEIR land!!

I know all this as i was trying to locate a quarry recently so Ian(Mud4Fun) myself and anyone else who wanted to pop over could have a sort of scale Trial/Crawler comp!!
