Ive got slight confusion over pinion gearing if it has lees teeth does that mean more acceleration and more teeth more top speed.Please help.

That's correct as long as you remain within the motor overall ratio. If you use a to big servo the car will go slower hatever you do and you will "cook" the engine.

As a general rule, the hoter the motor, the smaller the pinion to use: a low turn motor revs more but has less torque, hence the need for a smaller pinion which will allow the engine to reach its max power.
