Ok, one night sat near the bath, it dawned on me that Willy Rash torque twists because the whole car tries to spin round the driveshaft.

So, the solution would be opposed rotation shafts [:D]

Basically, one driveshaft rotating clockwise, and one counterclockwise.

This would obviously necessitate one diff rotating in the reverse direction.

The only trouble was that the axles are moulded around the diff so just flipping the diff over isn't possible (Done it in a TB01 by mistake once, rears went backwards - see, learning from mistakes)

So, I flipped the whole rear axle. All that needed doing was grinding the servo mounting area off - Dremel time!

The chassis sideplates and the bearing plates for the transfer 'box' were made by Wijnand (alu-cutter) in Holland, and the rest was sourced locally.

The in-line gearbox is a 3.33:1 from http://www.fanfare.f9.co.uk/gearbox.htm (I used the 3.8:1 in Willy Rash) and the transfer case/pinion is 3:1, so that's about 9.9999:1 into the axles, I think.

Wheels are funky Ho Bao ones from Modelsprt, tyres are Pro-Line Masher 2k's

Anyroad, enough of that, pics [:D]

I may still extend the wheelbase, at the moment it's the same a Willy Rash

Hmm, very very cool. I want one, but needs to be 4 wheel steer so time to get your thinking head on again. I know you not to fond of idea but time for your 2nd bath this year [:P]

Love it mate!! So does it work well? really no torque twist? I can try this on my next crawler too.

Your chassis is might fine looking as usual!

Alu-cutter delivers again!

The shocks as they were didn't work at all, so Wijnand made me some riser brackets - Problem solved - the suspension works a treat.

Wahey!!!

Torque twist is no more, and there's a video to prove it.

For test, I removed the shock spring cups, so the springs don't do anything, the rolled the chassis over, in order for the torque twist to roll it back.

Holding the truck still, applied small amount of throttle, in order for the dreaded twist to show itself.

First up is Willy Rash, and twist can clearly be seen.

Second is Steershead, no twist, at all, whatsoever.

Hey cool that would be the first steam powered monster truck then fella?

or

You found the limits of an Mtroniks speed controller.

Seriously though the anti twist system seems to be working.

Yup, Andy 1 - Mtroniks 0 [:D]

In fairness to the guy in the local shop, he said it wasn't a car speedo, then added it'd probably be ok on a low geared 40 turn motor, as he runs at least 3 of them [:(!]

As for the smoke, it actually worsened with throttle, which was pretty cool, although it got hot enough to desolder the wires, and I still tried to pick it up!

Was that an Mtroniks Marine 20 ESC Andy?? I burnt one out a while ago in one of my trucks running a stock 540! They can only cope with about 20amps max, even a 540 under stall/high load conditions will pull more than that momentarily!

scratch that last comment - watched the end of the movie and it showed it as the marine version - as you say, boat speedos are for boats....

Mind you mine went up in smoke whilst in my Bush Devil which was stuck on a log in muddy water at the time!!!! [:(!][:(]

My msonik ECO20 did exactly that (the steam) when I was running me blazing star, it wasnt even taxing running, but i had a 23 turn motor in it I think, might have been a sport tuned if not the Stock Type S. Anyway, wrote a letter to Mtronics, and they sent me a brand new Sonik4 Eco20! me = happy mtronics = more happy customers!

dont know where i was going with that, but its a nice story [:D]

I spoke to Mtroniks and they said to return it for them to have a look at.

At the very worst I gotta buy a new speedo, but the guy in my LHS reckoned he ran a lot of trucks on them, which I'm starting to disbelieve a bit [8)]
