Need some help please as I'm getting dogged off with dogbones !

I've just about got my Detonator ready to run after ordering several new bits but cannot get one battery pack through without breaking a dogbone. The plastic ball joint in the wheel end keeps coming off and the "T" piece gets stuck in the drive cup. Usually resulting in a multi body-roll crash (lost all three lights today)

Can we do better?....[?]

I'm running:- M-sonic Super Truck ESC, 2 Reedy 19T motors (Parallel) and 8.4v. The ruck is ball raced. [8D](Must get some pictures uploaded)

Any help greatfully received.

Hi,

With that power, it might be worth upgrading to Universal Joints. These are (if you dont already know) are just liek teh originals, except they are permanently connected at one end, with the standard dog bone bit at the the gearbox end, they're more efficient when turning, so you might scrape a bit better runtimes as well.

Thanks James.

Any idea of the part number to order? Had a quick look on modelsport and tower but cannot see the right ones.

Sounds like you have the wrong dogbones fitted. Sounds like you've got the ones from the Baja King/Manta Ray - these are silver with white plastic ends, whereas the Detonator should have all metal shafts in black. The silver ones will break up as the angle is too extreme. You also need to put a rubber o-ring into one drive cup at one end of the shaft otherwise the shaft will move out too far and be more prone to tearing the drive axle.

9805370 is the silver one with white ends. 9805551 is the black, and correct, one for this truck. Both can be found on the parts shop on this site.

Reckon shopkeeper is right. My Det shafts are all metal in black with no plastic end. The only time I broke one was when keeping the power on aafter landing following a 6 foot jump - the sudden torque as it hit the ground snapped the shaft. Even with 4" shocks and using the inner wishbone mounting holes for extra ground clearance the dogbones never fall out

Ah, thinking about it now, mine are black, but my Blazing Star ones are all silver with no plastic bits. I would still go for the Universal Joints though, if not just because theyre all new and shiney [8D]

The only tamiya ones that will fit I think, are the ones from the Top Force, they are identical in length to the Manta Ray ones, and from toying around with both the shafts, I'm sure theyre the same length. Sorry, can't find a part number, JR RC has some in his Ebay store though.

Thanks for the advice guys.

My replacement parts were the ones with plastic ends[B)], have now ordered the solid metal ones, plus enough to go in the Baja Champ Model. Although it's no Champ anymoe, more a beef'd up road bettle.

Finally joined up to the full experience and set up my first showroom entry. Thanks for the advice that has made the learning curve a little less steep.
