I would say best of luck.

Go and prove me wrong but how would you fit just the engine and fuel tank never mind anything else or is it going to be "serious" conversion and just use the TLT axles with a new chassis.

In the german AMT magazine (of last month I think?) there is an article about TLT conversion with an old Kyosho .10 engine like the GX12 [8D]

Don't see really its sense though as TLT doesn't handle well at high speeds and for crawling an electro motor is better... [?]

You are allso going to have to figure out how your going to keep the motor cool . Nitros dont work well at crawling speeds for very long . Its allmost like driving your car with no antifreez in it , within minuts the motor will lock up from getting to hot . The best thing you could hoap for at that ponit is that the piston didnt weld itself to the head . But the motor will still be trashed even if it didnt .

I very much doubt the GX12 will give any more go than a decent modified motor. If you are after acceleration then the power delivery of an electric is preferable over nitro anyway!

Nitro engines have low torque and low RPM and also a clutch and thus suffer alot a low speeds, a DC electric motor has maximum torque at 0 RPM [8D] and has also no clutch, thus is a dozen times better for crawling and precice control.

i am afraid djtheo is correct

a nitro engine does not have the torque on tap like a electric motor does. if you want to go for extra speed there is a two speed gearbox you could use this means a total rebuild and rethink of the whole truck. putting a nitro in a tlt-1 will first of cause heat problems, second cehter diff in the tlt-1 this will melt at the speed the nitro will build up to.third is dogbones these will NOT be strong enough for the truck using a nitro engine. foruth the gx12 has the exhuast port on the left side of the engine so you will loose some of the chassis plate.

have a look at a traxxas rustler and a tlt-1 the nitro ruster is crampped up even using a small .15, you have to think the tlt-1 is alot smaller so i can see alot of problems. in my mind i would revert it back to electric and extend the base a little. leave nitro alone its more hastle than its worth. i had the same ideas but long sleepless nights of drawing and looking through manuals made me give up on the idea totaly.

ive got a nother tlt chassis on the way jst brought it of ebay im gonna keep on electric and one nitro if the nitro dont go well ill either sell it on here orchange it make it into a electric crawler

I had the same idea, But its was with a juggernaught. Basically using a schumacher gearbox from there nitro 10. using the gearbox and locking the diff, And then mounting it sideways. But gave up after trying to source parts. And having to have parts made. To much hassle in the end. My main stumbling block was the linkages to the carb and the brake.

But good luck to you, If you get it up an running. Im sure we all want to see a movie...The quickest tlt ever !

So it is possible to nitro a TLT.. thing is though.. I thought the TLT was meant to be a mini crawler. surely a nitro conversion wouldn't be able to give you the same degree of driveability and torque as with an electric motor. I think Tamiya choose carfully what models should use electric and which should use gas..dependant on what they thought the purpose should be. In repect, you could change most electric powered vehicles to a nitro engine. Same could be said about most things with an electric motor. My missus could come home tonight to find that her hairdryer has been converted with a Tamiya FS-12 nitro engine..[;)]

Thats what I was saying erlier in the post . RC reece's original idea was to make it a nitro "crawler" which would be imposibol . Power and torque like you say would play a part but mainly because the motor would cook itself within minuts and turn into a lump of unuseable metal . There is a reson nitros are fast , if they was slow the motor would weld itself together from overheating . Crawling with a nitro without some other source to cool the motor is virtualy imposibol .
