XC was the chassis type code for the Pajero MTW, Jeep Wrangler, Isuzu MU, Isuzu MU-X, Honda CRV and RTR Rally Pajero - when Tamiya released the VW Race-Touareg on the exact same chassis they'd re-named it CC-01, presumably so they could develop it into a CC-02 but we'll have to wait and see! [;)]

Correct, but I would like to add that also the models before the Touareg were often referred to as "CC" by Tamiya. Anyway, what's important is that the "-01" just might be an indication that a CC-02 may be launched some time in the future! [:P]

Also, as many of us pointed out before, the CRV and Touareg have a longer propshaft and longer wheelbase, just for the trivia record. [;)]

Maybe a different discussion, but what improvements would we like to see on a CC-02 chassis? And idea's for nice bodies? Judging by the re-releases, Tamiya is already paying close attention to us already. [:P]

You're spurring some dreams there, Sjoerd! For the CC-02, I would like:

1. a separate gearbox (and not the tub/gearbox combination of CC-01).

2. better steering mechanism.

3. better upper rear shock mounts.

4. better front body mount (for the hardbody versions).

5. ideally more suspensin travel, but not that important.

6. Double set of "difflockers" included.

7. the possibility of an even longer LWB-version (than Touareg/CR-V), to have a suitable chassis for some of the old hardbodies.

8. realistic, but somewhat more aggressive tire pattern.

As for bodies, for me only some classics would do: old Landcruiser, old Land Rover, Hilux, Jeep CJ-7,.... No Touaregs, Cayennes or other modern SUVs for me, please.

Definitely a detailed Land Rover body shell along with some of the ones that Miramar mentions. The only modern 4x4 that would appeal is the L200 - I think that would look great as a long wheelbase XC.

For the chassis, I'd agree with the improved steering setup as well as softer compound tyres (Geolanders perhaps?)

And to push things a bit further, how about a configurable gearbox with some really low ratios, or even an adaption of the big rig 3-speed gearbox.....[?][?]

Thanks you very much for that.

Do you know if the diff lock will work on a TA02, TL01 and wild dagger chassis?

Thanks

It will. On most other "modern style" Tamiya geardiffs as well.

Hi

Does anyone have the G5 metal part for the xc chassis. It is the part which locks the diff.

Thanks

Marcus

walawala_com has them if you can't get them through someone here http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...805529&tc=photo. His store's back up now - better hide me credit card [;)]

Thanks for that David - I've been looking for a while.

In the auction pic, it looks like you get 2 of the locking bits, do I need one of these packets for each diff which is going to be locked? Or is this gear bag for the whole car (e.g. gears for the 2 gearboxes)

Cheers,

Sam

It might be worth having a scan through old forum posts first as there has been some discussion in the past about other ways of locking XC diffs. And yes, you would need one set of 'G' parts per diff.

Back to the body question , the hard body I would LOVE to see Tamiya put on a new XC/CC chassis is an old 75' Jeep Cherokee or in the case of this picture a 75' Wagoneer ( both are the same body , the Wagoneer was just the lower end model )...

Or the very first range rover. Or the mercedes g klas AMG. There just to many nice suv's or real 4x4 for a new cc. Although they must fit the chassis. Like a wrangler has 2 rigid axles in the real world so if tamiya is making a wrangler they should make the chassis like that too i think.

Locking XC/CC-01 diffs: Hot-melt glue gun.[;)]

Chassis improvements: Watertight radio box.

New bodies: Mercedes unimog (civilian & military).

Hi Buzz.

I realise that you can lock the diffs with hot glue, and my diffs are locked with some substance - previous user did them.

I however want to be able to easily unlock / lock the diffs, and doing it mechanically just seems sensible.

Cheers,

Sam

That's why hot glue gun is so good for this - the glue cools (more or less on contact) into one lump and simply lifts out if you want open diffs again. It doesn't actually stick to anything in the diff it just forms a solid mass that prevents the gears turning.

I'm not an 'armchair expert' - I would never suggest anything I have tried and tested for myself![;)]
