Have some ?'s i just got the VW and put it together and just love it!Ok Ok now the ?'s what are some simple mods i can do to it in stock form to make it better? i locked the rear diff that helped a lot.

What wieght oil do you guys run in your shocks for trail running and crawling?

Was thinking of taking off the black orubber o ring stoppers off the shock shafts ? would give you a little more travel? is this a good idea ? or should they stay put?[:I]

Hi shenloco and welcome to the club.

If you have a scan through old forum posts with the 'search' function (top right) you'll find loads of stuff about modding the XC chassis for trials etc. Folks have used 4-link rear suspension mods, cut the tyres, used lead rings, high-torque motors etc.etc. etc. Seek and you shall find [;)] You can also have a look through showroom entries for Pajero MTWs, Isuzu Mu's, Wranglers and Touaregs (all XC chassis) that range from box-stock to fully modded. If you still have questions, post back here and you'll find people to be very helpful.

Have fun [:)] David

Hello,

I used the standard oil in my XC shocks, I also used spare 850 size bronze bushes as spacers to lift the shock mounts at the top for increased ground clearance. In the front diff I used that very sticky Tamiya Anti-wear Grease, it is like treacle and makes for a very sticky diff, next best thing to gluing the front diff up. For tyres I ran the Pajero Metaltop ones. Not sure if they are the ones fitted on the Touareg as standard or not?

Hope that helps.

Also anyone know how i can make the front a arms drop a little lower than stock?

I noticed that the stock shocks shafts extended longer than where you snap them on the ball joint so they can fit if you can make the A arm drop a little more?

Any info will be great

Putting spacers between the front upper shock mounts and the chassis will give you higher ground clearance as it will angle the lower suspension arms further down. The antiwear grease should be available from any decent modelshop who stock Tamiya. Try James at Fusion Hobbies. My tub was the left overs from building a TA04R.

The problem with the fron suspention is that the arms and chassi have moulded stoppers that decreases the ammount of travel you can get from them...it's pretty easy and if you just remove the lower plate (the one where the a-arms attaches)and the a-arm w/o removing the a-arm from the plate you can plainly see where the stoppers are located...
