Rubber will deteriorate if stored in

-hot conditions

-humid conditions

-exposed to light, especially UV radiation

-exposed to oils (eg from skin etc)

Was discussing this with a friend just last weekend; the worst ones are usually Tamiya Ovalblocks and pinspikes, and the Frog/SuperChamp rears. Foam tyres can also dry out and go brittle.

Not sure yet if Armorall does anything to help.

Was there a thread not too long ago on keeping tires nice and soft? I did a search and could not find the thread. (Or should I switch to a brand of Crack that does not mess my memory up? [;)])

Cheers,

The BMW product is called Gummipflege.

Isn't that the same stuff that Gummi bears are made out of?![:P] or the Gummi Venus de milo, carved by Gummi artists out of the finest Gummi.. I think I've used the word Gummi far too many times in this post!

Hi[:D]

tahnks to all for the answers. I keep the tires in the light (cause they are exposed on display) but not under direct sunlight. Then the ambient is dry, they are in my bedroom and not in the cellar. So I don't understand why they fill with cuts. I use the talco powder, that is corrently used by all airtubes producers. Where can I find the product you said me in Italy? Must I buy it in Germany? It can definitelly resolve the problem in your opinion?

Thanks to everybody.

You should be able to get it at the local BMW dealership/garage/place that sells cars [delete as appropriate]

Hi,

I have had similiar problems with tyres on my TR-15T's. They dry out and split. To combat this problem I now use Auto Glym Bumper Care. I rang up their technical dept. and explained the problem and that is what they recommended.

Bumper Care nourishes the rubber and seals it in so that it cannot dry out. If the coating goes dull then just re-apply. It will not fix tyres that have already suffered but will stop further cracking.

Auto Glym is sold around the UK and can be contacted on +44 (0) 1462 677766.
