Hey everybody, I was surfing the 'net came across a new ESP Rokzilla Chassis for the Clodbuster. Looks cool. Check out the link:

http://www.rokzilla.com/

Looks like it was made for the Novak Heavy Duty 14.4 Volt ESC. In fact that looks like a good 14.4 volt chassis, hmmmmmm.........

Also, keep your eyes open late next week for some images of my nearly completed G-Made Dragoon Super Clodbuster - it is simply stunning ! I'm just waiting for a few more "bits". Oh it's gonna be sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet. I can't stop staring at it.

The only thing I wasn't keen on on original Zilla pics, was the lower links bolted to the underside of the lower plate, kinda begging to get rock rash [;)]

Not sure if they've changed it, it's hard to tell from the new pics

The Stick chassis a real bargain isn't it. All this for only $219.99 [xx(]

I have a question. On all these crawlers some have the triangulation on the top links pointed towards the gearbox or towards the chassis. I'm curious as to what difference this makes to the handling as it must alter the roll centre which way round it is.

Or am I the only one that's thought about this?

I don't think the triangulation direction matters, TLT meets at the chassis, as did the Clodzillas if I remember right

As for the Stick price, for an excellent competition Crawler, it aint a bad price at all, you could pay a lot more for something far less capable.

I can't justify one cos I play, but I guess if you're serious enough, you get the right tools for the job - look at the cost of training shoes [;)]

Andy you might not be able to justify buying one but surely you can make one for a lot less. After all the chassis is just one rod with 3 plates fastened to it. Add two of your servo mounts on each end so you can mount the batteries as well and you have the complete car. I think I've got some of those large igubal balljoints kicking about somewhere, they were only around £5 each.

It might be more capable than other chassis but there's a lot more material and work in the NN chassis and that's $70 cheaper.

True, the cost of the parts doesn't add up to the selling price, but that aint unusual.

Having made a few chassis myself now, I know they can be made cheap, but I got a box load of 'spares' too - I had 3 different versions of the Maxx chassis made, and there's still a lot of room for improvement there [:I]

I guess with the NN, there wasn't as much 'innovation' costs, just a few tweaks to lean it towards 'unique'

There's a bit here from the manufacturer of the Stick

Search Clodtalk for 'justify' too, there's a bit on there.

I guess I lean towards appreciating the invention more than the downside of the cost, I'd by a £50 servo saver if it was 'special' [:D]/[:I]

On the stick crawler,The price is WAY over.

A guy on RCCrawler has just built 1 very similar for around $32 for the basic gear (Project Xerox)so which would you pick?? $32 or $220 and it has MORE ground clearence!!

[:D] Coming from a guy that owns a chassis made out of $20 worth of tube [;)]

As a professional modelmaker I do appreciate how much work is needed to develop a product to a sellable item, many times you build the same thing again and again until it works properly and you need to recover the development costs. I also know how much it costs to buy and run the machines if it is done in house and how much it costs to outsource short production runs - that can be frightening. The seller will not have the luxury of cheaper prices due to mass production. The buyers are also paying for the innovation in the design.

But then they have also spent weeks producing relatively large numbers of them so the development cost should be taken care of quite quickly and reading how they produce the parts there are areas where they could save time and money to bring the price down.

Project Xerox is called that as it is a copy, made for a fraction of the cost but that does not include the labour costs. If anyone wants a one off copy of either I must admit I could make one easily but my hourly rate means I would probably end up charging more than $219 for it. Setting up for a short production run would bring the labour costs down considerably.

Andy if you want a special servo saver I'm sure I could come up with something for £50 [;)]
