I Agree on the bearings, Pushrod- must be a pretty rare thing for ball bearings to fail before the nylon inserts- hasn't happened to me, yet. My real issue with the plastic, is that it quickly developes play that in turn EATS the rest of the drivetrain! BEARINGS-->THE FIRST THING TO BUY!!

As for trailing or trials:

Tamiya is aware that the North American market is turning towards 'rock crawling'

Example: http://tamiyausa.com/articles/feature.php?article-id=135

It's a step in the right direction IMHO. Not completely scale mind you, but close. As focus pointed out (and Shenlonco demonstrated in his video) it is loads of fun to recreate scale offroading. You see, I'm a modeler first and a driver secondly- Scale performance is always paramount to 'racing' performance. I'm all for crawling comps, but I would really like to see some meets (like in Germany) where scale is part of the rules.

Hi Guy's thanks for the complements the mountain where i live is a very sweet place to run the XC's that's for sure!

About the stock XC VS the linked XC i think you misunderstood me I meant that when you do the few littl simple mods that i show in my photos to the stock XC I found it runs better than the full blown Linked mod.

Also about the bearings sure they do not get ******ed when driving through water... It's when you drive through mud puddels with muky water.. what happens is grit and debrees get past the rubber seals and then it causes your bearings to bind.. This happend to me my last time out in the mountain and when i cleand my truck up i found that the bearings where binded in the front carriers so i took them out popped the rubber seal off them and i could see tiny dirt mud like particals inside them and it caused them not to turn and seiz.. i cleaned them out with my RPM bearing blaster then filled them up with grease and poped in the rubber seal.. I figured the grease will make a barrier that will help block the particals from entering the bearing again.

Great stuff! Thanks for sharing that with us Shenlonco[^]

I see your point with the bearings- guess there are some limitations to them. I just can't stand slop! XC's have enough freeplay out of the box, so a little more is A LOT of slopity-slop. Luckily, I have a hole bag of hub bearings to replace the ones that seize. (At a dollar or less ea.)

I also understood what you were getting at with the XC modding-

Not every idea works, but it was fun trying it out, no? Really, if you could get an equal amount of travel in the front end, you wouldn't lift a wheel every time you clear an obstacle.Does anyone know how to do this? I've seen plenty of mods for the rear end, but very little for the front end.. Any have a suggestion here? I visualise kits similar to 1:1 trucks- you know, brackets for the control arms, etc.

I have lots of ideas[xx(]

Just flip through your average crawler / 4x4 Magazine and see lots of modifications that translate over to an XC chassis. I checked out RC-4WD and all he has is some brackets for the rear end (with no explanation) some wheels, bearings, and the afore mentioned TA03 REAR hubs that I have no idea where you would use them.[?] Where are all the fabulous mods I'm dreaming of?

--> Oh and BTW: I saw Shodog's Jeep on RC4WD- nice stuff guy! [8D]

I might just start a whole new thread for this, but let me test the waters here first. How many of us do you think the are? By us, I mean people who love scale off-roading but dislike giant unrealistic wheels and "monster" appearances. I love watching a 1/10 scale strugle to climb a hill, traverse a mud pit, or hop a 'log' ;) Does anyone here share this with me? Is there enough of us that there should be organized events? (or if there is, let me know) I can see the guidelines being something like- Width and wheelsize restriction, body/ scale appearance regulations, and of course, SCALE courses with SCALE obstacles!

Great idea OCD, start a new forum where we can try to organise some rules and also try to find all the people in the world witch are interested in this! I live in Norway and next saturday the 29 and also sunday the 30 me and my two mates are gonna have a pre vinter drive, at least we hope the snow are not laying! All that lives in the area around Oslo, Drammen, Hønefoss are most welcom and offcourse all the other TC people that would like to come! Just contact me. If you start a new forum OCD I will post this again! under here is a link to pic's from the last drive we had.

I also prefer the look of the XCs when running the stock wheel and tyre combination. I figure that if you are adding 2.2" wheels and tyres, why not start with more of a monster in the first place? In terms of front suspension mods, I have seen people drilling a hole in the front wheel arch and flipping the upper shock mount round so you can get longer shocks on the front. This won't give you any more dowantravel (grinding away at the c hub and wishbone appears to be the only way here) but you do get lots more uptravel.

The only way to get a little more down travel is to grind the C hub carrier.. I did this but i found a better way on my last XC i bought i ground the inner side of the A arm where the C hub gets held on.

This way is better because it makes the front suspensin much stronger now than when you grind the C carriers.

I did this with the stock front Oil shocks on the VW and i just unscrewed the bottom ball cup on the shock shaft a couple turns and this made the front A arms drop lower.

Funny thing is you can't really make them drop much lower the dog bone shafts right now are almost at there limit it looks like if you lower it more they will pop out when you turn...

Also i ground a little off the C carriers where the steering knukle hits them this is a great mod it makes you get better steering so you can turn in a much sharper radious.. Grind just enough off so that the steering ball cup on the steering knuckle at full turning hit's up against the back side of the A arm.

I can well recommend getting the TA-03 universal driveshafts to fit to the front of the XC. No worries about dogbones popping out with those fitted.

Even so with the universals when you drop the front A arms lower to a certain point the ends of the pins that go through the drive shaft or dog bones at the top of the gear box cups they sam to almost come out of the grove they ride in... You can only drop those A arms so much.

From what I remember of grinding the plastic, there was no way of getting more dowantravel without seriously compromising strength. At this point I found dogbones would pop out or jam the drivetrain while uJs would do no such thing.
