Hi Guys,

I’d like to let my five-year-old daughter play with my Blackfoot Extreme. She’ll just smash the planet with it though so what’s the best way to keep it slow until she learns…how to buy her own truck?

Thank you :0)

Integy 55T lathe motor, LRP or Team Orion 80T truck motor, less cells or adjusting the ESC (probalby only possible on old ESC with non button but potentiometer setup)

Thank you guys. I had thought I could just stick a resistor in line with the motor. I'll look into your sugestions.

A resistor would only waste energy and cook in few minutes, a sufficient dimensioned resistor would be pretty huge, but you could warm up your meal while driving [:D]

Not sure if there is enough space but the most effective solution is to buy a cheap geared reduction unit that bolts to the front of the motor. You can get them in all sorts of reductions but a 3:1 or 4:1 would reduce the speed of the motor to crawling levels. I got mine for a reasonable £25 from my LHS. The only problem with them is that they add about 1.25" to the length of the motor so it may interfere with your tyres. They usually have larger diameter shafts (4 or 5mm) compared to the 3mm on most 540 motors but you should be able to get pinions from you LHS to suitor just drill the hole out in an existing pinion on a pillar drill.

This solution allows you to have a 540 and reduction drive available for when your daughter is using it and then you can replace that combination with your own higher performance motor when you need it.

I even managed to find 480 size motors with reduction units already installed (designed for R/C aeroplanes) that would work fine if you can get a motor mounting plate/adaptor made. These are really cheap motors and give incredible runtimes - I've been getting over an hour run time from a single 2000 NiCD pack in my crawler.

Check out the 480 motor/reduction units here http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.a...d=32105&id=1721

DJTheo has also put a comment on that Graupner make these reduction units with a standard size output shaft so if you got one for a 540 sized motor it would fit straight onto the blackfoot extreme.

My 18 month old Daughter drives my crawler around the garden and the super low gearing means she has great fun without causing any damage!!
