Is there a manual somewhere on taking apart a 3 speed tranny? I'm going to take it apart and want to make sure I put it back together correctly.

Sorry, cant help with the instructions

I found the best thing to do when having to pull somthing apart that I didnt have instructions for, was to take photos of the thing as I pulled it apart. At least that way you have something to refer when you reassemble it.

I think Moosey's last 3 speed movie had a Breakdown in it, so Either Moosey or his movie may be able to help you.

And if you look at www.Tamiyaclub.com under manuals - you can get the Bruiser, the Hilux and Blazing Blazer. Enough manuals to make a grown man without one (3 speed truck that is, not manual) cry ;-)

Well here is my problem now. I took apart the tranny just to see it and put it back together the same way. Now I have to fill it with oil but I don't know which type, brand, or weight. I have the tranny installed into my truck but for some reason it won't shift. I can leave it normal and the rear wheels spin. Now when I either push in or pull out the arm to shift it, it doesn't engage for some reason.

it sounds like you ain't put the gear selectors in the right place or wrong way round.

If you still have prob's after another strip down you could always send it to me and i'll see what i can do for you.

As for oil 3-in-1 works well

Well here is how my tranny works. If you push in the rod it goes into neutral. If you leave it out, it's rear wheel only and if you pull it out, all 4 turn. So for a 3 speed to be working at 2 speeds, does that mean I'm missing something in the tranny? That's just my common sense kicking in. I took it all apart and it looked fine. Maybe I put something on backwards.

I did send this to you Josh but my mail's up the wall on outgoing [?]

Shift arm = Pulled out -4 WD Low........Neuteral - 2 WD Medium........Pushed in - 2 WD High.

Initially a space of 8-10mm is left between the shift arm and the transmission.

Lubricate transmission with spray oil DONT FILL IT.

Steve.

Hmm so why is my tranny not shifting right? Would it be possible that I've put it together wrong?

was it shifting right BEFORE you touched it...? [;)]

From memory those shifter forks must go in their proper direction, they can't be reversed. And the little springs are all unique too, can't be switched around. Everything must be present and installed in the order as per schematic.

There's really not much you can "fix" with these boxes anyhow. Tamiya never sold spare gears, so if anything's worn out you'll have to get new gears machined up.

Sounds like everything is present though... otherwise you'd usually end up with a boxful of neutrals.
