Hiya's,

I was spending some quality time working on a couple of buggies this evening and got around to reinstalling the radio gear. The steering servo and ESC are almost covered in bits of half removed servo and double sticky foam tape. Quite a nasty looking sticky mess. How to remove this goo without a. destrying the surface on the part or b. destroying one's fingers trying to rub it off. I don't mind disassembling the shells off these parts if that is what is needed to clean them.

Thanks in advance,

If you have nothing else use WD40. Spray it on and leave it to soak. It should wipe off after a few minutes. I have found turpenine substitute to be the best of all. Dab it on with a cloth.

Hi,

I just cleaned a chassis with glue and servo tape residue using acetone free nail varnish remover. Did an excellent job. I just rubbed it with a soaked cloth. Wife says it is "Cutex Peach". [;)]Also just been told I am buying the next bottle[:0]

Cheers

Clive

PS Word of warning: Buggy blast and other motor sprays are usually Trichloroethane or Trike for short and it destroys lexan and certain plastics so use it carefully. It is a product that is used for stripping paint and carbon gunge off electric motors as it is electrically safe. There was a move to outlaw it in the UK during the late 80's and early 90's not sure if it was in the end!

I suspect its probably carcinogenic and probably kills the ozone layer too, but who really knows the truth? [|)]

Hi Willy,

Oh well if it is carcinogenic, guess I am dead the amount I have used.[;)]

We used to go though 45 gallons a month at the rewinding company I used to work for. Great stuff for cleaning out 540 class motors as long as you regreased the bearings or bushes after.

The beauty of carcinogenic agents is that it'll take a few years for the cancers to appear... [xx(]

But as for the hole in the ozone layer...

Thanks gang,

I have been experimenting and a cleaner called 'Wipe Away' is doing the job very well for me.

Now I smell like orange flavored chemicals! [:D]

I have used this stuff and with works great... Just peel off the actual tape, and the residue will FLY of with a paper towel and this stuff.... [^] It'll look NEW without scratches from usings a screwdriver as a pallete-knife... [:P]

According to the bottle, translated with my big old dictionary it's called 'white spirit' or 'refined petrol'... [:)] Willy, is that the same stuff you recommend for stripping paint on lexan bodies? [:o]

Anyway, my dad doesn't like me using it as I might burn down the house... [}:)] In that case, again:

Flavoured! Better go see a hospital straight away! I think you mean scented but never mind [;)]

No, it tastes like orange as well. I speak from experience... [;)]

Haven't read the thread all the way through, but the stuff they always taught us to use to remove sticky stuff in college was plain old Cigarette Lighter fluid. (ie the liquid you put in old fashioned cigarette lighters)

Works a treat.

Here are another couple of good ones:

SHELLITE

TEA TREE OIL

EUCALYPTUS OIL

Plain old methelayted spirits.

Most solvent based products will work well.

I'm sorry but I was thirsty... [:I]

I was young! I didn't know what I was doing, I swear! [:o] [:P]

And another tip, the white spirit stuff I use doesn't taste as well... [;)] Anyway, is that the same stuff to strip lexan bodies? [?]
