[?]Ok, where to start?? Ok. Three questions

1; Was recently cleaning out my TT-01 after some driving in my road (dont you just love all those leaves autumn gives us[;)]) and I was having a close look at the front end. I noticed that the steering arms (is that what theyre called[xx(]) go to the bit joined onto the wheels (with 2 bearings in) . Ok. There are two holes on this piece that the steering arms can join to. The manual only points at one of the two holes so thats all ive been using. So whats the other for?[?] Is it to do with toe angle?

2; So i carried on cleaning and i discovered that the bearings in this bit that the wheels are joined on to were a bit dirty and gritty[:0] so it took them out to clean them. I had done three wheels when I found the fourth was stuck on (not the actual wheel) . So it goes: Drive shaft, spindle thinggy, bearing, plastic case over top, bearing, pin through spindle, then a hexagonal thing that goes over the pin and holds the wheel itself.[;)] This hexagonal piece of plastic is well stuck on and i dont want to force it too much. What do i do?? Should i leave it alone?

3; Finally, what would happen if you took out the drive shaft and tryed to use the cars with RWD? Would it work? Is it worth it (obviously it isnt but are there any clear advantages to RWD?[:o)]

Thanks for reading

The 2 holes on the front arm can be used to change the toe in, but if used with adjustable length steering arms you can make the steering quicker by using the other mounting holes.

I think the bit your refering to is the 'wheel hex' to remove these I put a small flat bladed screwdriver between the hex and the hub and gently (but firmly) lever it off. They are usually stuck on after any decent amount of use.

You can convert the TT-01 to rear wheel drive by removing the front drive shafts or by removing the long centre driveshaft. You might notice the cars speed increase as there will be less drag on the drivetrain. It will spin out much more when in rear wheel drive only mode. You can remove the rear drive shafts instead and have a front wheel drive car. This will change the handling totally, best stick with 4wd on a TT-01

Many thanks

But what do you mean by an ajustable steering arm? It changes length? Can you get this for the TT-01? I know that upgrades arent very comprehensive for my car [V]

Thanks again!

Yeah, the arm is made from 2 'ball ends' and a peice of threaded metal so you can adjust the length.

They can look like this:

If you can't find any in your local hobby shop for your car you can make them up yourself with some ball ends and some metal threaded rod.

Oh. So i need a threaded rod (cut off bolt) and a couple of things on the end to make this myself. On the car it is a piece of plastic with 1 hole in either end. Do i do this on the end of the threaded bolt to make baisically the same piece but with an option to extend/retract

Yes?[;)]

Thanks

The best method I have found is to get some 'studding' from either your local hobby shop or Iron Mongers/Hardware shop and some ball ends from your LHS.

If you want to order ball ends on-line www.modelsportuk.com has some made by traxxas for £5.99 you get 20 ball ends. The part number is TRX-1942.

If you get enough studding and a suitable amount of ball ends you can make suspension top links and all sorts, so you could trick your car out with adjustable camber etc for around £10-12.

So its possible to rebuild my car to be full adjustable parts at the front. Camber sounds appealing. Is it possible to do all the others like caster, king pin inclination etc.

And can i fit a superior cars front end onto mine...like a TB-01? Or is this not possible.

No problem mate, its what the forums are all about!

I'm not familiar with the TT-01 chassis, is it a budget version of a TB-01??

If it is the I think you will be able to make up steering links and top links for the wheel camber.

Yea the TB-01 is the advanced version of what i have i suppose. The TT-01 is Tamiyas main entry level car (along with the Tl-01)

I dont know if i can make a new front end with TB-01 parts...has anyone tryed it?

Thanks again

If you're in the UK you could try giving The Hobby Co. (Tamiya UK importers) a ring 01525 385 778 and see if they have the TT-01 hop-ups in stock, if they do then you can order them direct.

Give them the part numbers that fury_dice has listed, Tamiya call the adjustable steering rods 'Turnbuckle Tie-Rods'
