I'm trying to restore a Sand Scorcher body by stripping the paint and repaint. So how do I take the body accessories like wipers, chrome handles and VW badge off the body. Since they are glued on, I need to take them off so I can soak the body in Brake fluid bath.

Just to make my question more clear, how do you take down glued on plastic body accessories? Are there chemicals out there that can desolve the glue yet not harm the plastic body?

Any suggestion would be appreciate it.

Just hold your breath , hope everything goes well and pop them out with a hobby knife.

Some parts are visible from small holes inside the body. Try pushing them from this side too.

I had same problem with my Ford Ranger resto, the previous owner must have had shares in a glue company [:D]

I soaked the body in really warm water (not boiling) this softened the glue and made it really easy to ease the parts away.

I suppose it depends on original glue used, but the above worked for me.

Only problem i'm having now is removing the clear laquer that was applied. What a mess[:(]tried all the usual but to no avail, I have some 'easy off' so thats the next try

Twmaster has a good point, you can use a debonding agent. Just becareful around the chrome. Some of the debonding agents like Great Planes, will take the chrome off.

If if is CA'd or superglued,

Try "mild" nail varnish remover, you know the one thats good for your hands[;)](but still with acetone), it works a treat, but use it from the inside of the shell so it attacks the glue from that side and seeps through. This way you can remove the detail bits (slowly [:P]) and wash off the nail varnish remover before it gets a chance to lift the crome.[^]

Thanks for all of your inputs. I think I'll try the non-chemical, natural way (very warm water) first. If that don't work, I'll have to get me some of those nail polish remover or glue debonder.
