Guys,

Anyone has any experience in cutting FRP or carbon/graphite plates? i.e. what tools/techniques is neeeded?

Thinking of making some custom parts.

Thanks.

Recently I bought a Dremel router jig to hold my drmel rotary tool. I then bought some rotozip bits. They make short work of cutting out chassis. I just have to figure out how to keep a steady hand.

When a carpenter fitted our kitchen worktops, he cut them using a full-sized router, and had an assortment of jigs cut from perspex to guide it. Clamp the jig to the worktop and run the router along it - result was a perfect cut.

Perhaps something similar could be done with the dremel router jig?

Jozza your right

You can get a black cone type thing that goes on the end of a dremel and with the router bits shodog metioned you can just push it about without a jig.

I used one on our boat and routed a planking effect into ply head linings, also used it on epoxy, ally and grp. TIP get a steel rule and clamp it along line or should I say 1/2 the width of cone away and use it as a guide.

Here it is

Thanks Stefan,

I tried that at my LHS but the guy behind the counter looked at me like I had two heads. He said "What would you want with that?".

I can try another shop about an hours drive from here. I called first to see if they have any and said to come in and have a look.

Very frustrating.

Thanks,

Nick
