Well I've been running a new Mtroniks Sport RV all this week in my thundershot and it looks like that is going well. Ran it for a couple of hours this morning in torrential rain and it still works!! [8D][8D] Guess the Mtroniks Eco20 that I had was simply not man enough for the 8.4v/technigold combination. I also took the precaution of mounting it on its side in the chassis so that water can run off rather than sit on the top.

Isnt a Technigold 21t? [:)] The Eco20 is cutting it a bit fine, interesting though.... i wont be able to fit a Futaba MC230 in the Porsche 959 then, that's a 20T esc as well [:(] ******, ******.... You at Snett? - probably!! (memory loss) see ya there [:P]

Technigold is 22 turn as far as I know. I notice that there seems to be a weakness with that eco20, quite a few problems with it if you search the forums on this and other rc sites. Maybe a design flaw? Anyway I'm happy as the SportRV has already done over 20hrs of serious abuse and it is still behaving well. It is nowhere near as good as a Novak rooster though, the acceleration is pretty poor and the braking is none existent! I'm used to a rooster which actually brakes you pretty **** fast...the Mtroniks seem to take forever....I've hit the fence by then.....[:(]

Hi guys,

There is no reason not to use an electronic speedo in just about any electric RC car. I have never raced with a mechanical unit unless the rules demanded it (Mardave mini stocks) My first car was the Spectron (1977), specifically chosen because it came with an electronic speedo. So most vintage Tamiyas could rum a period ESC!

In terms of control, performance and efficiency ESC's are vastly superior to MSC's BUT they are expensive and don't like water at all (unless you choose carefully in the £100+ price range)

However you can do all sorts of other expensive damage to your cars and radio gear by running them in mud and water!

Driver Beware!!!!!

Cheers, Paul.

I guess the problem is that those turns are stated for 7.2V, so when you run with higher voltage, you have to use more turn motors.

DUH, of course, cheers DJTheo, I totally forgot about that, I run 8.4v all the time so I guess that makes the technigold the equivalent of a 19turn motor? so the eco20 wouldn't cope. Well the sportRV certainly works fine so I'm quite happy - an ESC that is good enough to handle the motor/power combo AND cope with running in seriously wet conditions - this has now extended my 'play' time significantly. It rains alot in the UK and especially up in the north where I live!!!

I can live with its inferior braking and the fact it takes an age to engage reverse compared to the Novaks.
