Most cars can safely take up to a 15 turn motor or so without any major breakage problems. but anything faster than the stock 540 then get ball bearings throughout the car, or you can do damage to the car, battery and speed controller.

Thanks

An incorrectly geared motor in ANY MODERN Tamiya will potentially melt the gearbox mounting face.

You can run a low turn motor but you must ensure you fit the smallest pinion/largest spur available (at least to start with). Then run the car around your track and after a couple of laps see how hot the motor is. If it is burning to touch then you gearing isn't low enough and you can't use that motor. If it is still cool then you can possibly go to the next pinion up.

Also worth noting is that any friction in the drivetrain, worn bearings or no bearings, dirt/grass on the axles, larger tyres etc will all put extra strain on the motor and cause excessive heat.

Once you've found the correct motor for your car than you can further protect it by fitting an aluminium motor cooling fin but this is ONLY after you have geared the car correctly, it is not a solution to an already burning hot motor!!

I don't know much about the TT01 so can't help you with that specific car but if you are not intending to race the car at a club I would stick with something above 19turns. Anything less and you start to lose considerable run time on you battery even if the motor doesn't overheat. Bashing isn't much fun when you have to change the battery every 5 minutes [:(]

I happened to test a Mad Bull which has fixed pinion size only yesterday and found that even a 23x1 motor (Super Stock RR) overheated very badly due to lack of lower gearing options but that motor didn't have much torque. I fitted a 23x1 Kyosho Meyhem motor and that works fine as does a Tamiya Technigold. This proves that on cars with limited gearing choices you'd be better spending your money on a torquey 23 turn + motor rather than low turn motors. They give much longer run times too.
