I have a TA04R, I have tried various different motors including a twist 47 brushless (unfortunately not mine). I have just stepped up from a 'non tunable' 15 turn to the supermodified 11T by Tamiya, and was dissapointed with the results, I have tried different gearing from about 8:1 down to about 5.6:1, but it wont go significatly faster,(36mph) I am about to try a dnya run motor as it seems to have more torque & simular RPM all this is controlled by a LRP F1 limitless controller. anybody got any ideas, Also if anybody is interested the twist47 propelled it to a top speed of 46 mph using 7.2v 3300gp pack, we verified this but venom speed meter & a speed trap.

Putting a hotter motor you should increase the gear ratio, not reduce it, as low turn motors have less torque, so they need other gearing to reach their higher RPMs. Many similar topics also before, use the search function to find much info about gearing and motors.

Thanks, for the advise, I have already tried the highest (number) ratio that I can and the top speed dropped, although as expected the acceleration was better, so the question is is this typical for this type of car/ motor set up, am I expecting to much from it?.

The reason for your disappointment is that brushless motors are a lot more eficient and powerful than brushed ones, you may now be addicted to brushless!!!!

In this context you need to gear lower, 8 to 1 is lower than 5 to 1, the higher the number the lower the gearing.

I think you will have difficulty matching the performance of the brushless set tho!
