Futaba 2PL **warning**

Futaba 2PL is a nice unit - digital electronic trims, 10 memory etc.

But do be warned that the new RJ142 receiver IS NOT BEC.

Do not plug it direct to 7.2V, it must be fed 6V only. That means you cannot run it in a car with an MSC unless you get an old-style external Tamiya (or other) BEC unit; or use an ESC with builtin BEC.

Thanks for pointing that out Willychang, these days you expect any new receiver to have the BEC built in, so it's handy to be aware of this. Fortunately I run BEC ESCs on all my cars as I can't get on with the old MSCs, but I sometimes hook up a receiver to the MSC on cars which I've got second hand just to give them a quick thrash before stripping and putting the ESC in, so I'll be careful not to use that receiver for that purpose!

I suppose that's why the receiver supplied with the 2PL is tiny, cos it doesn't have as much circuitry as the standard sized one.

Most annoying, as their older RJ122 might be a little bit bigger but if you open its case its just about all empty anyway. Main part is a 16-leg DIL IC that's about all on the PCB. Could easily have built the RJ122 smaller and that still has BEC. [V]

I didn't know that - the only receiver I've been brave enough to dismantle is a vintage Acoms one in the Monster Beetle, it's huge, but inside the case there's no room at all, as all the old components are huge and tightly packed.

It would be nice if receivers could be made a bit smaller though, they can be a pain to fit into some of the modern cars, and I really like the small ones but they seem to be a lot more expensive and/or harder to get hold of..

High end receier do not have BEC because it would prevent them from passing high output to the most demanding high torque servos.
