The bumpers on my Bruiser were in bad shape,. gouges + scratches in the soft plastic etc,. Ive smoothed them with 800 and 1200 grit wet and dry and they now would look ok for the shelf though on closer inspection you can still see some deep flaws ,. I was wondering whether to paint them?,. I figured that if I used some glossy white (plastikote?) paint the shine would take your eye away from the flaws,. anybody else had success painting them?

I had the same problem, I did what you did to get them smooth and then i painted them in black. I also did the nerf bars as well and even with a mint shell they still look right. The second set of bruiser bumpers that i had were in better condition but had yellowed from being in contact with the sunshine for too long. I soaked them in black dye so not to make them looked painted.

When i run my bruiser, i always remove the bumpers and have recently made my own front bumpers out of aluminium plate and tubing.
