I was working on a trade with a gentleman when he got ancy with the shipping details:

He was all gung ho on the deal and at the last minute pulled out. He was worried I was going to rip him off because someone else did prior

(rightfully so), I am a trustworthy individual and know how Id feel about the situation if it happened to me. So dont let this look like Im putting him down in any way, I understand his opinion. The total worth of the vehicles involved was about $1400 USD So trying to get all the info and creating a hobby shop to work as a mediator, so neither would get ripped off. I supplied my email, home phone #, ebay info for verification, paypal.com info for verification, the hobby shops info phone # email and contact information(well established hobby shop for over 15 yrs) and I think as of Midnight of July 10, 2003 all of my hope in truthfullness of others and the world in general has crumbled, No one trusts anyone and all see things as others out for personal gain at any Cost. Dont let this be misleading there are good people out there...Too bad you cant weed them out to be able to trust them. This was a sad thing to write because the person seemed to want this item and i wanted what he had!

Disappointed,Disgusted at the way the world is

Sadly there is a lot of evil out there in the world and sadly many folks are afraid to get burned. (Or whom have been burned and are now wary)

One solution to look at is an escrow service. They are not free but may be worthwile.

Best of luck,

it's a shame you had this 1 not work out for you.

But, it is only one deal, does not mean every deal will go this way or that everyone will treat you a certain way.

I've had a few not quite work out for me, but probably more have worked out, and in fact just in the middle of one worth about a similar amount to yours where post is about $100 !!

Maybe next time!

The attitude is nothing specific about this 'hobby' at all. Its about people not wanting to get ripped off, the fact we are talking about rc cars is irrelevent - the same is true for just about any thing you might trade/buy over the internet. This is why the take up rate for people buying online is still so minute compared to people online or real world shoppers.

The really in no use is wasting energy being disappointed or trying to change it. Its just the way it is, and thinking about it you would get the same level of distrust even if you were not dealing over the internet, ie if you were buying something from a newpaper advert which required you to send $1400.00 off in an envelope - you would probably have a few reservations.

For those sums of money its worth a Scammer going to a bit of effort and sorting himself out with a few fake id's to back his story up. Personally I wouldn't even enter into negociations for a transaction of that amount unless I knew I could complete the deal face to face.

Like Stu says for every deal you get fail because of this reason, or every deal you get ripped off on, you will get many more great smooth deals. None of the bad deals I have had have made me feel bad about the 'Hobby', they make me feel bad about a few individuals but these people i would probably had problems with regards of what the transaction was for cars, dolls, beanies, stamps...

Like what Chris sez... [:D]

Hey, is the deal "totally off" or he's just not comfortable?

Why not do it gradually... eg 1 piece at a time instead of a

whole lot? Sure it'll be more expensive on postage, but heck

its better than *nothing*. [^]

Talking complete vehicles

The face to face comment we are talking equal ammounts per side and Ohio USA to New Zealand!

And it is the hobby even face to face people think your going to give bum car!

I have very little problem elsewhere just in the paranoids that seem to think EVERYONE is out to get them..

I didnt mean to just single out the hobby but Its more a general statement/observation on thing I have encountered in the hobby

The Deal is completely off...

I gave reference to the mediator, hpi associated ace hobby companies that can verify person and company working as mediator.

I think I just give up............

I don't think it really has anything to do with the hobby, and very little to do with trust.

If you check eBay forums, what do you read? Ripped OFF! CHEATER! This seller is a theif!

etc...

The problem is nowadays everyone focuses on the negative. Like a seller who sells 1,000 parts, then gets burnt. He'll change his business, his payment options, etc...

Point is, just watch the news. Today everybody focuses so much on the bad they don't even notice anything else. The world and people have not changed so much; the way we view them has!

When all you hear on the TV, Radio etc is negative, it becomes hard not to become negative, no matter what type of person you are. This is filtering down to all aspects of life. I've been on eBay for over 4 years, and don't get burnt anymore or any less in all that time.

What if you contacted the guy and offerred to split up the transaction into multiple smaller ones? This is better than risking $1400 at once.
