LOL, I'd hope it could handle it because I've been running a Reedy 19 quad spec in far lesser cars for months without problems! [;)]

04 is a great car, it is basically a 414 without some of the bells and whistles.

I used to run mine with a 10 single for outdoor events, went awesome.

I runa TA03R TRF with a 19 turn motor sometimes and a 12 turn othertimes and its fine. I use a 23T pinion gear with the standard spur gear, overall ratio is 4.51 I think, which is very low, but the motor isn't too hot after a run and I have great top speed and good punch from the corners, and I am constantly in the top 5 at my club, so gearing seems right for my driving style and the track. I understand some people run a gearing of around 6.7 on this motor. Anyone else run a low gearing like myself for top speed?? Also worth noting is that this season i went from nicad 2000 and 2400 to Sanyo 3000nimh and I must say they have far better punch and gives the car a higher top speed than my old nicads, very strange.

Thanks

James

Provided it's geared correctly, no problem. I run an 11x3 in my TT-01 and it's quick and doesn't get red hot due to low-ish gearing.

12-2 in my 04 and not a squeal. Good bearings and not too tall of gearing. It will take more I have a feeling, it is built like a tank and has a hop-up motor plate and a couple of other heat removing devices. Go for it!

I run 42/120 (04 module) in my TA04R, that makes it a ratio of 6.10:1.

Found it to give best runtime, laptime and accleration!

The 04 module spur is nearly noiseless, a must have!

Hello rcracerpete,

I have run a 8T double one mine with no problems, BUT you have to check if your main transmission axle (the one to which the spur gear holder is attached to) as 3 ball bearings. On TAO4, TAO4 S and SS, it has only two, whereas the R and TRF have 3. This third ball bearing prevents vibrations one the end of the axle, which can cause the spur gear to be destoyed, especially if you have the 04 module.

If you don't have that option, simply bye a new ball bearing (840 size), and use small washers between this BB and the spur gear holder.

Another point is that the aluminium spur gear holder is strongly recommended.

Regards,

Oliver
