So I set up my TC3 with a reedy 19t and a Novak GTX, then I set up my friends TC3 with same motor and his Duratrax (Intellispeed I think) esc. Both motors were bought at the same time and I broke in and set up both motors and cars at the same time, the gearing is the same. We are both running GP3300's and they are both fairly new, I do most of his charging and we have the same chargers as well.

This guy should be paying me as all he really has to do is drive the car, I do everything else for him![B)]

Anyways we went to the indoor carpet track today and this is the first time either one of us ran the cars with the new 19t motors. To my amazement my car absolutely crushed his car in every aspect, accelleration and top speed. All day long both motors were running at about 150 degrees. This happened all day, battery after battery it was like I was running a hotter motor or something.[;)]

So I am wondering is this the difference between the two esc's? That is really the only difference between the cars. He has about 2deg toe in and I have 0, other than that and the esc's the cars are the same.

Hi Mike,

I've found the same with other Novaks, the super rooster/roosters provide superb power, acceleration and braking - far superior to my other ESC's such as Mtroniks or Nosrams.

I guess you get what you pay for?

The intellispeed is the cheap no limit controller isn't it? I have one and it has been plagued with troubles since I bought it and the performance is no match for the Novak super rooster.

Cheers,

Ian

Easy answer, you get what you pay for. The more you spend the blower the internal restistance is. The Intellispeed costs £40-45, the set of low resistance FETs in the Novak would cost this much on their own. Most top of the range competition ESCs are designed with performance in mind rather than value for money.

The toe in can make a difference, if your car handles fine then removing the toe in on his should give him more cornering speed (the more aggressive turn in would mean he could go in to the corners faster) but the difference is very small compared with fitting a better ESC.

If I set his toe in to 0 he would nail the wall more than he already does![:D]

Well I'm really happy I put out the cash for the GTX, the car runs great with it.

The bad news is him seing the speed difference has made him lose interest for a while.

Not to fret however I am still in it to win.[8D]

Mike.
