The obvious answer would seem Masami Hirosaka, since he has won both on and off-road world championships in the 80s and 90s.

Appart from him I tend get a blury line with the Gil Losis, Cliff Letts and Joel Jonhsons.[8)]

Whos the best in your opinion? Has there ever been a notable Tamiya driver besides the recent Surikarm a Rheinard fellows?

atsushi hara is good. great results from IFMAR 1/10 touring and 1/12th onroad. also back to back ROAR 1/10 touring national champ.

honestly i really think it depends on class. and in this respect Masami is arguably the best because he has won various titles in various classes. the only thing he hasnt really touched is nitro classes, but he has won electric off road and on road titles.

As far as Tamiya is concerned Jamie Booth was UK 4wd national champion and finished second in the European 2wd championships using a Manta Ray http://www.tamiyaclub.com/article.asp?id=64 and an Astute http://www.tamiyaclub.com/article.asp?id=94

Masami Hirosaka has to be the greatest, he has been successful since the 1987 World Championships, when he qualified with the older swb CAT before Schumacher sponsored him by giving him the latest lwb model. He can also drive his car at competitive race pace using his feet.

Craig Drescher has to be the best all rounder in Europe, plenty of natiuonal and euro championship wins under his belt and competitive both on and off road.

That has to be the most "un-Manta Rayish" Manta Ray I have ever seen.

Looks like a Top Force Evo to me.

Yep, the Top Force and Evo was based on the race team versions of the Manta Ray. At the time we would all buy Manta rays and add all the extra bits.

Best?? ME!!![:D]B-MAIN CHAMP. Shows what 1/2 second in qualifying can make all the difference.http://www.rctech.net/events/cleveland2003/index2.shtml

As for World known drivers its a very tough call. Atsushi Hara is very, VERY good!! Along with David Spashett, Matt Francis, Barry Backer, and Mike Blackstock. In my opinion the "ALL TIME BEST" drivers would have to be Josh Cyrul, Brian Kinwald, or Masami Hirosaka.

I've raced with most of those guys and they are all SUPER good and its a very tough call to say whos best!![:D]

Well ive also raced against those people and some and came home 4th in the A (open 4wd class) Reedy Basildon some years back...BIG DEAL!!

And i was within 2 secs from the top guns be it from a non sponsored driver...BIG DEAL!!..

Why some people so full of themselves? [|)][|)][|)][|)]

Anyway, i have not only raced against those guys offroad but onroad too and for me its gotta be Masami. Winning is not so important for him anymore, i think he tends to put more emphasis on the fun element more than winning nowadays. He's that good and just picks and chooses what event and when he feels like winning. And yeah he can drive with his feet but to race?.. no he cant..[:)]

I have had the privelage of standing next to Masami on the drivers stand in 1989 at the Off Road worlds in Sysdney (actually - was it in the warmup earlier that year or 88?? - memory fading)...

The guy is a TOTAL freak when it comes to precision driving...almost robotic - however in a flamboyant, rythmic way.

He gets my vote - doesnt matter what scale - on road or off road. Especially electric.

Cheers
