i'm thinking of getting back into racing.

i got out of it years ago. my last racer was a losi XX.

i think i want to try to race a tamiya this time around.

a few of tamyia's 2wd cars from the mid nintey's seemed like they would be competitve (in stock class atleast).

the older the better in my mind, it would be really cool to beat or compete with todays modern losi and associated cars with an "old" tamiya.

so i have started to narrow my choices.

i would love to find an ASTUTE or SUPER ASTUTE but those seem hard to come by. the other option is a dyna storm, but i have never seen one in person.

any suggestions ?

are there any other tamiya 2wd cars that would be competitive ?

thanks,

Id guess the Dyna is more efficient than the Astute, mainly because it uses a lot less bushings/bearings and comes with a slipper cluth. Its a very nice car to drive. Everything youd need to make it competitive comes right out of the box, i.e. complete bearing (even in the steering system!), FRP chassis, nice servo-saver, smooth transmission, pink motor, metal shocks, etc. (although you'll probably have to change its stock "Super Gripper" tyres to make it bite nicely).

As for the Super Astute, it could fit between the Astute and the Dyna performance-wise? Problem is these are much much more rare than either two of those cars mentioned above.

Go for the re-release of the DS.

I'd wait until Tamiya came out with a new buggy. I'd bet my bottom dollar that they will have one early next year. Since they just brought out the DT02's and the new nitro off road buggy, a 2 wheel drive isn't too far off I think.

nothing is wrong with it, i just sold it a few years back when i got out of racing.

now i am mainly interested in tamiya cars, so i would like to race one.

noone at my local track races one, they all run losi or associated.

i'm sure to get a few looks when i put the tamiya down on the starting line.

Just a piece of advice kaiser, if you ever break anything on ie Dyna Storm parts arent gonna be readily available by any means. You may in the end get your parts off the net but finding them at a reasonable cost is another then theres the waiting for the bits and some..

Im tempted to build and race a Dyna storm but after thinking about those questions made me realize its not really worthit.

Like i said its parts that you should be concernd about!

If you ask me, either Losi or Associated would get my vote for regular racing.

i'm starting to realize this.[V]

but, i'm looking to race a whole season either, just a few races over the summer. i'm tempted to go with a B4, but i really want to stick with tamiya.i've still got a few months to make my decision.

thanks to all of you for your feedback.

while im sure the dynastorm is a nice car,it wont compete with todays b4 or losi bk..cars have evolved (i should know ive been racing 15yrs offroad)...a top driver may get it around the track quickly but will still be significantly slower than the b4/bk.

if your not bothered about winning finals then sure have fun with the DS but if your serious about racing then the b4 or bk is the way to go.
