Is it worth paying double money for a modified motor over a stock motor in the 15 - 17 turn range? is there that much of a performance difference between the 2?

Also, slightly off topic, is there a problem using a 13 or 14 turn motor with a esc with a recommended limit of 15 turns. What happens if a motor is used outside of the esc limits?

Thanks guys, any info is greatly appreciated!!!!

you can buy modified motors for about the price of a stock motor, anywhere from the $29-$59 range (CAD).15-17 turn range motors have more speed than a stock motor & have good torque.if you use a hotter motor than your ESC s limits, your ESC can suffer damage,or will just shut-down.if your ESC has a certain rating...lets say 15 turn limit, then i would recomend a 16 turn or 17 turn motor...you could use a 15 turn but the speed controll will be at its borderline & may get hot.

Does anyone have any ideas on what make of modified motor is good between 15-17 turns and around £25 - £30???? LRP? M-troniks? Team Orion???????

I burnt my stock motor out today so need a replacement as soon as possible so any help would be great!!!!!

Thanks again

The Trinity Speed Gem 2 series motors are excellent, and all have features dual ball-bearings and adjustable timing (better ask someone else about adj. timing, as I'm pretty new to the hobby.) Anyhow, they have a 17-turn Sapphire motor in the range, and probably a 15 or 16 turn one as well. They offer excellent performance at around £20-30.

You can find out more about them at www.teamtrinity.com

Hope this helped!

Team orion motors are always of excellent quality.

Trinity quality control is not perfect but their engines are usually very nice.

I do not recomend LRP as the power declines sharply after a few packs.

I've also heard that the towerhobby speed secret engine offers excellent value given its low price ($25 ???)

thanks for the responses guys.....one last question though, could anyone please give me an web addresses of stores where i can but this stuff from. Preferably a UK site, or one which will ship to the UK. Thanks guys

www.towerhobbies.com do most motors, and for a good price. Shipping to the UK is not too expensive, it takes about 4-6 weeks unfortunately. I cannot find Speed Gem 2's anywhere else in the UK so this is a US site. Hope this helps.

By the way, WillyChang, Speed Gem 2's definitely have dual bearings, I checked.

Darned, whats with this ribena berry Trinity here.

(label is half missing, thus the uncertainty)

Does the Speed Gems "1" have bushings or bearings?? [:I]

I've looked at the Trinity site, and it does not even mention original Speed Gems, unfortunately. I would guess that they have bushings, but I can't be sure. Sorry!
