Don`t suppose anyone knows a good supplier for schottky diodes. Looked on ebay and you either get 100, or 10 from the states where postage is the more then the pack its self and i`m not even sure if there the right ones.

Would it kill my esc to run it a few times before I fit the diodes to my motor.

Modelsport and Apex both list these on their sites - I'm sure if you rang them they would advise on suitability for your ESC. Modelsport post stuff quite quickly, never dealt with Apex. HTH. David

Are you sure you need a schottky diode??

If you're running a reverse esc then you DON'T as it'll will go bang!!

Most motors come with capacitors ready fitted if not then your LHS should sell them and they cost pennies!!

Yeah I think I need one, recommends fitting the diode on the box. I’m running a forward only ESC so that shouldn't be a problem. Regarding the capacitor, there’s something soldered on the opposite side but it looks nothing like the capacitors I remember from school. It’s a small orange circle with two legs and its soldered to the opposite side to the motor power feed. Why would you want a cap as well as a diode fitted?

Capacitors are there to suppress the interference caused by the sparking as the motor runs.

Diodes are there to protect the speed controller from current coming the wrong way down the wires under braking. Only ever fitted with forward-only speedos.

Capacitors used on R/C models (also called SUPPRESSORS) look like this...

The capacitor you remember from school is probably what is called an

ELECTROLYTIC capacitor which look like this...

As sosidge says are used to prevent interference from the motor usually they are soldered from the wire post to the motor can one on each terminal

This article may help to explain why you need them...
