Pinions and spurs

Ok is Tamiya the only company that makes odd spur/pinions? I'm running a Losi and I have a bunch of 64 pitch pinions from my Ta04 and I don't feel like stripping out the spur. Will any 64 pitch work? I know I tried a off brand in my TL01 19 pinion and it chewed up my spur in there. Any help guys?

Losi make 64dp spur gears for their cars, so you can use your 64 dp gears easily. 64dp and Tamiya 0.4 mod mesh just fine.

I believe the tl01 uses 0.6 mod gears, maybe that is part of the problem?

Tamiya uses metric pinions. If you want to use regular (i.e non metric) pinions you will have to replace the spur.

Hi sounds intersting guys. I just got my new Ta04S and about to upgrade. Any advice on what ratio i.e. pinion / spur gear to run with a Trinity monster 19 turn motor? You sound like you been through this quite extentsively

Something around 7.5:1 overall will be a good starting point.

7.5:1 ? how do I translate that to spur and pinion gears

Either look in the manual, or use the calculation (spur/pinion)*internal ratio.

Internal ration on a TA04 is around 2.25, I don't know for sure.
