Hi,

As you know, I am new to all this.

I am going to go along to my first race night this week, and I want to know how to get my car and equipment there - no sarcasm thanks.

Do I take it in a holdall? A carrier bag? Walk in like an Xmas tree with car in one hand, controller in the other?

Also, do I need to buy any "pit lane emergency" bits? tyres?

Please reply ASAP

Hi Sam, basically a holdall is a good idea as long as its not too big, and it comes with a rigid base.

I have a cantilever type toolbox which i bought from Focus DIY for £25 and its a godsend!

I have a heavily modded tt01 skyline and you can fit your car, with shell on, in the bottom section, replace the tool tray (included) and then close it shut no problems. It has plenty of sections for all your spares and tiny bits and bobs, well worth getting one!

As far as emergency bits, as most racers know you somehow seem to aquire all kinds of spares and other kit though you can never remember where from, to start with just concentrate on the basics, heres a few ideas:

1, spare battery for car, and spare set for transmitter

2, spare wheel nuts, drive pins, bodyclips etc

3, wheels and tyres ( slick, semi slick ....)

4, a few different screwdrivers

5, your tamiya box spanner (included with kit!)

6, some cable ties

7, some switch lube ( if you have a mechanical speedo)

8, a cloth

9, spare crystals

also it helps to keep a few spare screws and washers handy as theres nothing worse than something small like that ruining things when your out racing!!!

These are just a guide for some ideas but the more you race the more you will realise what bits you need to take with you.

Hope this helps

Regards

Most of the people at our club haul their kit in toolboxes with wheels, or stiff based holdalls. Take bodyclips, box spanner, pliers and a screwdriver set. Don't forget to take an allen key in case the pinion comes loose. You should find that people at the club will be happy to help out if you have a problem though, and you will quickly get to know which bits to take with you in case of breakages.

I always carry some duck tape (gaffer tape) and cable ties, they come in handy for temporary fixes, and super-glue too.

If you are racing indoors on carpet, an old paintbrush is useful for brushing the fluff and dust off that accumulates on the car and motor.

Have fun with your first racing, and don't worry if you start at the bottom, you will soon learn the techniques to get higher up the ranks. I remember the first few weeks of racing being quite bewildering too, loads of new things to learn, but after a few weeks it all comes second nature.

Is there any sort of "combo" case that I could keep my TT-01 and Mad Bull in?

I looked or some of the above solutions, they all seem a little tight though.. I don't travel light :)

I'll keep looking anyway,

Sam
