Yes, as said in my very "original" headline, we who run a lot of XC and CC-chassis cars have found that a great way to both improve traction, and stopping the tyretreads from "clogging" with mud, has been to simply cut off every second "block" of the tyre surface, leaving the space of a block between 2 blocks, (Does this make any sense??), However, the tyres will "grab" small edges much easier than with the regular tread design, and sliding backwards down the hill, due to clogged treads have been nearly eliminated. The tyres we run are the original tyres from eg. Touareg, Pajero, Wrangler, and a few others, being the "BF Goodrich" ones. We have only cut every second block from the 2 outermost block patterns, using a new blade in the hobbyknife. One of the guys have tried to do it also in the middle of the tyre, taking VERY long time, and without improving the tyre more than it already was, so this was a waste of time.

But if you are using your XC-chassis for trial racing and hillclimbing, you should give this a try, as it also might help you out a bit... If this subject has been covered before, i apologise..

Cheers..

Michael
