I've got a sealed bearing set to upgrade my cars when I build them. Do you have to grease them in the same way you would grease the standard plastic ones, or should they go on the axles dry?

As they rotate (unlike plastic bearings) I would think that they wouldn't need greasing, but I want to make sure as I don't want to do the wrong thing!

Thanks for any advice!

If it is a sealed bearing set, you should not have to grease them at all because they will have permanent internal lubrication.

Hope this helped mate

That's what I thought - thanks for the confirmation though, I didn't want to put them in without grease and find they seized up or something!

Is Tamiya bashing again, even though I collect Tamiya....

Fellow member Jozza posted a very good question, do sealed bearings need greaseing?

In all Tamiya manual the up grade is always bearings and yet it never ever tells you if you should grease it or not..... if i am new to the hobby I would grease it just like the plastic bushing. Why don't they tell you! Unless it is indicated in the Tamiya bearing kit in which I never buy because of the cost.. than I will take it all back.

I am not finish, another point is that Tamiya now went decal crazy with their polycarb body and they tell you to peal off the back a bid at a time and be careful. How? WHAT THEY SHOULD TELL YOU IS USE SOAPY WATER WHERE YOU CAN POSITION THE DECAL, SQUEEZE THE LIQUID OUT, NO AIR BUBBLES AND THE DECAL WORKS ARE PERFECT EVERY TIME.

Now I am done, thank you.

Good points Tamiya1/10 - I asked about the decals too, I think that and the bearings are probably common questions, but not mentioned in the manuals. I only picked up the idea of the soapy water for decals when I saw it on some programme on satellite telly..

However, like you mention, they might contain the bearing greasing info in the hopup bearing kit, but I didn't want to spend an extra 30 quid to find out! Maybe someone who's got a Tamiya bearing kit could let us know if they tell you in the instructions?

I always put a very thin coat of grease between the axle and the sealed bearing. This reduces the tendency of moisture build up and rust between the axle and bearing.

As for decals I usually don't use any lubricant. some vintage decals have a hard enough time sticking on their own let alone having to deal with dried soap residue between sticker and body.

Got some M03 Tamiya blue bearing kits... and they don't tell ya nutting! [:P]

But on the kits where BBs are provided in box, the instructions don't show the greasetube logo where the BBs go.
