Hi Guys.

I wouldn't normally bore you with this, but seeing as the fact that I was going round a track at all today was purely to do with the people on TC, I will[;)]

My club (Roneo) race on a polished wooden floor, using Schumacher Mini Pin yellows to maintain grip.

I was running an Orion Core motor, which was great, and this was coupled with an LRP Runner Plus ESC.

3 heats and a final, so 4 races in all:

Race 1: Got off to an average start, not too bad, just getting to grips with the whole "low-grip" thing, but OK - car is very slow...

Gets to the point where it's so slow, a marshall has to take it off. Reports that my battery is either dead or knackered...

I ran over to my pit area, and picked up another, and away I went.

Finished soon after: A disappointing round, as I only got 4 laps in... SHAME on me, as I had 5 mins to do so [:0]

Race 2: Got off to a cracking start, was leading upto about half way, all the time, the Race Director kept calling "Car 6 is in the lead, I can't believe it!!" (Car 6 is me [8D])

All was shattered when my steering went: on further inspection, i found that the screw which holds the servo horn on had come out, and my servo arm was off... ended up losing the race (having the least laps) but actually got the fastest average lap - I was pleased!

Race 3: Bad start, my car was pulling seriously as I'd had to replace the servo arm in a rush, and the positioning was all over the place. No matter how much steering trim I used, it'd had it. I managed to get through the race, in a disappointing 5/6.

Final: Again, a cracking start, having led for the first few minutes. All badword was let loose when I was shoved into a barrier, and ended up stuck, all wheels off the ground.

The marshall who was near, was sorting out another car, and completely failed to notice mine [:(!] and after serious shouting and pointing, I was off again. Managed to pull a respectable 3/6, so I was happy.

Sorry to bore you with a long post, but the likes of Jozza and Biggus Ditchus really did help me get there tonight.

Thanks.

For a first time not too bad fella, look on it that things can only get better. Remember that preperation is key, spend a few hours checking over the car, 1. so you know it real well and can fix it when needed quickly, and 2. to make sure its race prepared so screws are less likely to fall out.

With regards to your other post I really advise getting a rebuildable stock motor, no doubt a silver can motor wont fit in the car due to the bushing housing being too large to fit in gap. (Been there trying to help another young racer out.)

As I said on MSN dont be overly concerned with winning concentrate on getting round course without crashing too much. Racing on polished wood floors is 1. difficult and 2. highly entertaining requiring much practice and patience.

Thanks Rich and Tamiya Learner.

Theo: The racers shouted at me when I was marshalling, but that was because I wasn't going to be stupid and walk out infront of other racers - I was sensible.

What did annoy me though, was that the marshalls completely missed the fact that I was stuck...

Anyways.

Those results are good for your first race![:D] I wish there was a club near me[V]. I think they should get rid of marshalls and everyone should have to run to there crashed car, put it back on the track and run back[B)]! Make the guys keep fit!!! Then there would be no complaining (just get to the gym and lose the belly)[:D]

Ignore the racers shouting at you, you will get more drivers shouting at you if you step out in front of the other cars. I personally never shout at marshalls. After all I don't like people shouting at me when I marshall, and if anyone needs marshalling it is most often the driver's fault. Really good drivers don't need marshalls, they don't hit anything.

Sounds like a successful first race night Sammy. You might find it's worth using a machine screw on the servo horn rather than a self tapper, as I find the self tapping screws in the servo never hold for long.

If you are running stick packs, it would be an idea to upgrade them when you can afford it to side by side cells, that makes a big difference to speed of the car, and it means you can use an equaliser to discharge all the cells every so often. I did that with my lad's car a few months ago and the increase in speed was marked.

It's difficult not to lose patience with marshalls when they don't retrieve your car, but it's better to try not to have a go at them, difficult when the excitement of a race is getting to you, but to me a sign of a good driver is one who can remain calm whatever is going on.

Glad the Orion behaved too, it's a fast motor but they do run hot!

I hope to see photos of a trophy or 2 in your showroom soon [:)].
