Hi all,

Once again i need your advice as i want to put some decent tyres on my tt-01 as i just have the basic stock tyres at the mo. So if anyone could answer some or all of the questions below i will be proper chuffed thanks!

1. What is the best make of tyre to get? (Schumacher seem to have alot of choice??)

2. What makes of tyres will fit on Tamiya saloon wheels?

3. What are the best type of saloon [?]tyres for tarmac, polished floors and carpet?

4. Do you really need to glue the tyres onto the rims if you have an on road saloon or is that just for the monster trucks and off-road buggies?

Cheers all.

1. The best make is subjective. It depends on which surface you're on - see quesion 3.

2. All makes will fit, it's the width you need to watch for. I would assume the wheels are 24mm, so you will need to get 24mm tyres.

I race using Mini-Pins, but use the 20mm (narrow) version.

3. For carpet, you'll probably want foams - ask the racers - I don't race on carpet.

For Wooden Floors (which is my race surface) you will almost undoubtedly need Schumacher Mini Pin Yellows, but would need to check with your club for details.

For tarmac, pretty much anything will be OK.

4. Personally, I do not glue Touring Car wheels on to the tyres, they generally don't need it unless you're running a hideously fast motor which could cause the wheels to spin in the tyres. Also, not using glue means you can re-use the wheels [8D]

Hope this helped.

If I don't glue my medium narrows, the tyres have a habit of dislodging themselves from the rims pretty easily on hard cornering.

So I'd personally glue the tyres. [;)]

Sorex and Take-off rubber tires seem to be good tires and good value.

Make sure you use foam inserts that are correct for the tire.

Seriously though, if you're racing, ask the other racers what they use and make a decision based on that.

Thanks to both Sammy and Hunterzero,

Right so foam inserts with Schumacher Mini Pin Yellows is what i am aiming for i think, so thanks for that. Also like you say i will ask around at the meeting aswell. One other thing if i hold the car in my hand i can move each wheel about two milimetres away even though the wheel nuts are tight? Is this normal and will this effect performance?

Excessive play in joints and chassis tweak will affect the car's handling performance and result in feeling 'skittish'. Is the play in the steering linkage, the uprights or the suspension links? Is there play in the camber, or toe-in?

It's most likely the play is in the steering setup. If the play is in the steering, then you're best bet is to upgrade the steering to the aluminium set.

If the car has been run for a while, you might need to replace some parts if they're worn.

If you run the mini pins on the road, they will get used up very fast. For indoor racing, I use Schumacher Carpet Dragons with inserts and whatever wheels. I race indoors so I have to have good stuff.

As for the gluing of the tires, I have to do it. I don't go under a 19 turn motor but even with the stock 27 turn motors the unglued tires come off in the middle of races. You can always boil the wheels and tires in water to release the super glue so you can reuse the wheels.
